MLB Chatter 2008

What can you say? Manny's a bad, bad man :p

Yeah, Indians fans must hate Borowski. Even when they blew their chances earlier in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, I knew that the game was not lost, because Borowski was still coming in to pitch. I swear, Manny destroyed that ball.

Yeah, can't feel to comfortable with "Oh No, Joe" on the mound in a tight game. Much less with Manny staring out at him...

HAHA, yeah. If you have ever been to the website survivinggrady.com, their commentary on what goes through Manny's head is hilarious.

I'm a big fan of the play-by-play of Doug Mirabelli's life. There have been a few immitators, but the original (search for "dougie's going deep") is hilarious. Written late in the 03 season or begining of the 04 season, I believe, as there is a lot of him tooling on Nomar... :)

Currently, the best thing associated with my New York Yankees is this pic:

You're not going to tonights game?

And why would you want to leave? I'd insist on staying until the Royals broke the shut-out.

Wuss...

Yeah, we were wusses for leaving early on Friday. With that wind, it was damned cold in Kauffman Stadium. We didn't go to Saturday's game because we had late tee times (got snowed out). But we did make it to Sunday's game and it was much better. About as cold, but a lot less windy, so we didn't wimp out and leave early. Outside of the fact that the Twins got beat (probably not the best conditions for Liriano to make his 1st start in over a year), it was a good time. And winning enough at the casinos to pay for the entire trip to KC was an added bonus.

Oh yes I have read that. It is freaking great! It makes Mirabelli seem like such a dick, but it is funny.

Yeah. I think they could have waited yet on Liriano. I know Slowey is hurt, but they could have brought up Perkins as temp spot starter.

But, if the bullpen pitches like it did last night, it won't make a whole lot of difference anyway. :scream: :scream:

Put this one in the win column for the Fightin' Phils. Great game. 4 runs in the 9th to win.

Got back from Progressive Field a little while ago. I went with some folks from work who are Boston fans.

Highlights:

Wishing for a homer from Varitek and getting one the next pitch.
Having the lovely Dutch coworker join us for her first baseball game and sport a Sox cap (with documentary evidence) following my insistence. ;)

Oh, there may or may not be a Red Sox bumper sticker now affixed to a portion of the Mezzanine level of Progressive Field.

The most memorable part, though, was seeing Jed Lowrie get three RBIs in his MLB debut. He'll remember that for a long time to come.

Below is a quick snap from the game; Coco is wearing #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson. The image was taken from 500 feet away and cropped, so hence the noise artifacts.

Damn, Tim. You're living the good life, eh? Go to two games and get to see the Sox win in the 9th on both nights? Sweet!

Last time the Sox were in Baltimore, I didn't go to the game and Gagne blew it at the end (yeah, that famous one in Sept). Good thing I didn't go, because he made me sick that day.

Good to see that Manny is Manny, as always.

I takes solace in knowing that the Braves lost in front of the least amount of people probably possibly in an MLB stadium

How long have you been following the Braves, Star? They regularly attracted attendance less than half of tonight's game in the 70s and early 80s. One year they averaged barely 6,000 fans a game. That's AVERAGED, for the whole season. As iffy as the Marlins' attendance has been, their WORST year they had over 10,000 per game. The Braves had five years below that in a decade. You could buy a ticket in the upper deck and move down and have the stadium practically to yourself by the 6th inning.

So 10,000 for a game isn't even in the same universe as worst attended game ever (I think the Marlins had 700 for a game last year, and I don't even think that is the worst).

That game pissed me off. Gagne had to ruin the only freaking suicide squeeze bunt the Red Sox have pulled off in my lifetime. That was special in and of itself.

Every time I look at the Red Sox schedule I just wonder if the people who came up with that hate Boston. They were forced to play in Japan, then they had a break on April 8th, but that's the last one until the 28th! They have two stretches with the Yankees without a break.

And damn you Yankees! :)
