MLB Chatter 2008

Off to Opening Day at Fenway! :D

Oh I hate you. Have a blast! I wish I could be there.:techman:

You would need to sell your house in order to pay for the tickets.

And the Red Sox should win, they have won every game (two) that they have played in this country.

True true.:guffaw: And now the POWERFUL EPIC Detroit Tigers....are 0-7. Great pitching by Matsuzaka today. He looks much more confident in his stuff then he has in the past.

Nah, got mine in one of those Sox Pax in December (I got in right away this year). Although, I had 8 tickets for the game, and for what I sold the 4 extras for, paid for a good chunk of the rest of my games, for sure.

Seeing the whole ceremony was very cool. I mean, Boston is doing it a little more often now, but how often do you really get to see a World Series banner go up, rings handed out, etc? Seeing Bill Buckner throw out the first pitch (to applause) was a really cool moment, too. And because they redid the bleacher section over the winter, MINE was the first ass to ever sit in the seat I had, which is kinda cool!

And a 5-0 shutout of the Tigers was nice as well :)

Welcome to Anaheim, Mr. Hunter!

:techman:

Maybe, just maybe the Twins fans will be missing him just a tiny bit. ;)

Torii Who?

Yeah, I miss him. It helps a bit that I have him on one of my fantasy teams, though.

Just got our tickets for the upcoming Twins/Royals series. Looking at the Kansas City weather forecast for this weekend, it looks like we really didn't need to buy those tickets ahead of time. Guess we also didn't need to set up tee times at 3 different golf courses. Oh well, I guess that's what long underwear is for. And crappy weather or no, it should be a fun little road trip (even though Iowa's in the way).

Interesting trivia that Mike & Mike noted this morning. Last night Jamie Moyer won against the Mets, in the last home home opener for Shea Stadium. Moyer is the only currently active Major Leaguer who is older than Shea Stadium.

I really wish the Mets would stop bending over like a virgin on Prom Night when the Phillies take the field. How the frak do you lose to a guy older then your ballpark and who can`t throw a fastball harder then 75 mph.

Oh I think 75 is a bit slow, more like 80.;) But hey, give the guy credit, he still gets outs, and can locate his pitches like its nobodies business.

I was gonna bitch about this, but you said it more eloquently than I ever could!

Their middle relief sucks like a vacuum cleaner!

They redid the bleachers? The ones in center field? I didn't know that. They added some crazy high seats over the left field line.

That's what I like about Fenway, it is nothing like the original field, they keep adding more and more to it, changing it a little at a time but still keeping the feel of it.

Much better than knocking it down and building a new one next to it... or in the south end. (Let's have a new Fenway Park in the South End? What were they thinking back then?)

Yep, they tore out all of the bleacher seats so they could redo the concrete underneath them. There's a resturant going in under there at some point, and the old cement had to go so the new stuff could be properly waterproofed and such. New seats went in as part of the process. A little detail, but the seats all pop back to 'up' when you're not sitting in them, so it's easier to get around in there, snow won't trash them as easily, and a little less rain on your seat on rainy days. More handicapped seating right behind the bullpens as well, which is nice. Also gives more room for people to mill about during batting practice.

And yes, the ownership group has done a FANTASTIC job with rennovations. They've really taken a beat up old ballpark and done an amazing amount with it, bringing it a lot closer to modern times. All with great attention to detail. None of the rennovations stand out as "new", and with every one of them, it looks like it's been there forever, and blends into the park perfectly.

The Green Monster seats, Right Field roof deck, removing the hated .406 club, and now ripping off the ugly old luxury boxes and extending the Pavillion section all the way to the monster. The Coke section looks nice, and like the rest, doesn't really stand out as new (will see how it looks lit up at night). As a testament to how good a job they've done, when I look back at old pictures (even from the 1999 All Star Game), there's not really anything that you wish was still there. Instead, all you notice is the things that look MISSING, like they really should be there but aren't. Monster seats are the perfect example. I remember back when it was just nets and screens above there, but compared to the seats, the old screens just don't feel RIGHT. With most of the rennovations, the end result is something that feels like it was always there, like it should have been there from the start...

:)

Obviously, Angel fans have yet to experience the other Torii Hunter special; that is, the one where he strikes out swinging at three consecutive pitches while there are runners in scoring position.

I'm surprised you decided to go so early in the season. But, to be fair, the weather is pretty much going to suck everywhere this weekend.

Also, it looks like Liriano won't be with the team this weekend. The said this morning that he's going to be kept at Rochester for one more start.

We've been going down to KC for the 1st Royals/Twins series for four years now. The idea is to get in a few rounds of golf before the courses up here open up. It's worked out great in the past. This year, we may have to skip the golf and just hit the ball games.

Round 2 of Phillies-Mets, which has turned into a genuine rivalry, is tonight on ESPN2. I can actually watch the game! It's such a novel thing for me.
