MLB 2021 season: Corn-Driven Humidity

IDK, Guardians sounds more like a hockey name, if that sort of thing is quantifiable in that way.

Cleveland Baseball Club would have been better

I was talking to someone about the swing/no swing and was really surprised that there isn't even a rule for it in the MLB. It's ridiculous to leave anything up to the judgement of these umps. They might as well just flip a coin.

Most announcers refer to the "front edge of the plate" like that's the deciding factor, but I've always thought that no corner umpire can realistically make that call. Bat crossing the foul line would be a better criteria.

The Major League Baseball rulebook does not contain an official definition for a checked swing, but defines a swing as "an attempt to strike at the ball". It is the decision of the umpire as to whether an attempt was made or not. Generally, factors such as whether the bat passes the front of the plate or the batter pulls their wrists back are considered in the ruling. Some umpires prefer to use the "breaking the wrists" criterion as the method to decide a checked swing: if the wrists "rolled over", a swing occurred.

'Spiders' would have been better. That's what they used to be called...

I mean, this is Cleveland we're talking about. Guardians of what? Traffic?
Pretty much:shrug:

The first trade of note has come in; Nelson Cruz to the Rays for Drew Strotman. Two other players not yet named are also in the deal.

Edit: Cruz and AA pitcher Calvin Faucher to Tampa for AAA pitchers Drew Strotman and Joe Ryan.
I love Nelson Cruz - good trade for the Rays, and they have such an insanely deep farm system, that's an easy trade to make.

Guardians is pretty lame but at least it's not something generic like Baseball club.

I was hoping for Blues, so the ohio battle would be Reds vs Blues

The Reds can change their names to Parents. Then you can have Parents vs. Guardians.

Next Cleveland will change the faces of the Guardians of Traffic into their greatest players -- Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau, Larry Doby, Jim Thome, Charlie Sheen.

MLB to test electronic device for catchers to give signals to pitchers

Major League Baseball will begin testing new technology that allows catchers to electronically communicate signs to pitchers at one of the lower minor league levels within the next couple of weeks, a system designed to both quicken the pace of play and suppress illegal sign-stealing methods.

...because nobody could ever hack a system like this

I don't see anything wrong with the name, though it doesn't exactly get me excited.

Plus, they are really only changing the first syllable of their name.

I mean, it ties in with the city's history (and the statues on the bridge are pretty badass, I remember them when I traveled across Ohio a few years back ... wait, sweet Jesus, that was eight years ago, I'm old). My only gripe is that the logo is incredibly half-assed from a design perspective, none of the lines are in alignment. It's breaking several fundamental rules of graphic design:

This was a design that was floated last year by some guy and I like it much better:

Gods. the inconsistencies in that design drove me mad, the lines in that image up there just makes them stand out more!
