Middle-Easterners in "Discovery"

With what's going on this weekend in Virginia, it's more important then ever we showcase all races, genders, and creeds in our popular media.

And with his lack of moral leadership, his temperament, and own views rallying white nationalists to the fore, Trump-- supported openly by Nazi's and who has (consciously or not) allowed Nazism to become somehow acceptable in society-- was absolutely the wrong choice.

I'm not sure how anyone could not agree with that at this point, today of all days, as swaths of Trump supporters chant "Heil Trump" and wear shirts with Adolph Hitler quotes on them while running down counter-protesters in the streets, while he refuses to strongly condemn them-- instead downplaying it as "violence on all sides."

What a weak and terrible leader. No surprise to most of us.

Only one of us can be ignorant to reality. It's you. There is no argument here.

Putting aside if you like Trump or not, putting aside what that says about you (all bad)-- the idea that he had any plan is laughable, and thinking he did proves you put little thought into your political leanings beyond "he's a white man and he's crass."

I had no love for Hillary, but Trump is as qualified to be President as Harry Mudd.

In TOS, it was remarkable that there was a woman of colour on the bridge, but ultimately, she answered the phone.
Appears you may be looking at this from a 2017 perspective. 'Remarkable' is much too mild a word to describe the impact of a black woman as part of the main cast of a TV show in 1966. True enough that she wasn't the show's hero, but her mere presence, especially on a science fiction show, was monumental. And in the black community Nichelle Nichols was a mega star and role model. No way can the importance of her casting in TOS be diminished because of her character's duties on the show. It was 1960's America after all.

Hey, Nichols wasn't cast because anyone thought, or had any idea, that she looked like she was from any particular part of Africa.
Whether this is true of not doesn't really matter in the context of the discussion. The fact is, (as I said in my earlier post), Saldana's character didn't look like she had the same lineage as the original.
That is because we all look the same,
Can you explain what you mean here?

I wasn't the one who invoked politics. But when someone brings Trump into the conversation (totally unnecessarily), yeah, i'll go there.

You are willfully ignorant to reality.

Putting aside if you like Trump or not, putting aside what that says about you (all bad)-- .

Do keep up, because it was much more snarky than a broad sweeping statement.

But both Germany and Japan (and others) received considerable outside aid in order to rebuild their society. Also both countries immediately after the war were under foreign political control.

I don't know about Japan, but in the case of Germany that money was peanuts compared to the damage. Not to mention that after the end of the war tons of industrial machines were taken out of Germany by the occupying forces, which extremely hindered the economic recovering. The Marshall Plan's influence in the recovery gets vastly overestimated all the time and of course the USA gave that money out of self interest. They wanted to keep West Europe out of the control of the Soviet Union and have a place for their exports. And it was also only West Germany which got some of that aid money, not East Germany.
