Re: Micahel Jackson's Memorial....

That clip of Michael's daughter is going to be all over the news for a month.

Sorry, I had to change the title. If I saw "Micahel Jackson" on the main page one more time I was going to throw the Elephant Man's skull at the OP.

Re: Micahel Jackson's Memorial....

I just hate that there is NO other news being reported because of this crap.
I don't so really have a problem with them showing it as much as they are, but this aspect of it really bothers me. I guess the barometer of what constitutes real news has really fallen in the West. It'll take nothing short of a terrorist attack, a major natural disaster, the fall of a major world government or the assassination of a major world leader to get them to break coverage of MJ's funeral.

I mean, they could at least have the damned ticker running. To put things into perspective, this is actually more coverage (a lot more) than they gave the death of Pope John Paul II. The Pope can't beat out the King of Pop. That's truly astonishing.

A lot of us truly try to watch the news to stay informed about things we really care about. Things that can change on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. Important things, like finances, weather, important local news, etc. Don't get me wrong. This is news, big news. It should be covered, but it shouldn't suppress all other coverage.

I guess it's par for the course. Television news in the West has long since devolved into shallow pandering. Shit like this is only going to hasten its irrelevance (vis a vis the internet).

Just watching a few clips on CNN now...very sad with daughter :( Reminded me of when Diana died and seeing Wills and Harry walking behind her casket

Whatever you think about MJ (I was a big fan in the 80s-90s) he left behind 3 children who loved him.

The man gave so much to charity and charitable works, he should be remembered for that as much as his music. I think he's just as interesting as any other icon who met with an untimely death. If anything, he probably gave more than most. He is entitled to his own time in the spotlight to be mourned. As for anyone wanting news, with today's technology there are a thousand and one ways, usually more thorough coverage than television news, too.

I had it on in the background while I was working. I enjoyed the music, tuned out most of the speakers. But his daughter...that was sad. :(

watched it from home. cried all the way through. I grew up with his music but I had no idea it would hurt this much. I hope he's at peace now, finally. :(

Brooke Shields got to me. :( I think she really understood what Michael went through growing up in the spotlight more than anyone else.

I hope Corey Feldman didn't show up. Twit.

I haven't watched it.. but i read the newspaperarticle online (swedish magazine) and it was heartbreaking :(

I work the evening shift today and I usually have CNN on in the background during the day. I watched while working on some other things, mainly for the music. But the first time I really saw Michael's kids sitting in the first row, I started tearing up. Then, when Paris spoke up to say how much she loved her dad, I was crying again. I certainly didn't expect that much of an emotional punch.

I hate to break it to you, but Levar Burton mentioned on Twitter that he spotted Corey at the Staples Center.

Why, today of all days, would Corey Feldman dress up like Michael???

Kicking myself for a) not entering the lottery for a ticket, b) not even seeking out a jumbotron to watch it on. Tears welled when Paris and Brooke Shields spoke - that very rarely happens to me.

EDIT: Actually, it would have been wrong for me to enter and win the lottery - there are millions and millions of bigger fans than I, two of who would have been denied a seat if I'd won.

That was damn stupid on Corey's part. Still looking for that second fame. Well that won't help.

Anyway, I saw pieces of the homegoing services. I just came from one earlier (my brother's best friend lost his mother).
I turn the channel when I saw that Paris was about to speak. I couldn't bear watching it. I don't care what anybody says about Michael, that was her daddy and she love him very much and will miss him.

Nothing is worse than losing a parent at a young age.

I watched at work on my computer, and was very moved. It was very well put together - not the circus I had feared. Brooke Shields, Jermaine singing "Smile," and Paris' heartfelt comment, I was wrecked. It was very much like watching Diana's funeral, except without the smoldering rage simmering in the background of the service.
