Well.. Spock was late, but didn't he set off the red matter and create a black hole anyways? So.. Why do that? Can't effect the radiation burst afterwards..
Black Hole is the better movie.
The theme always fit the title to me. I always think of it when something is moving slow.Excellent soundtrack, too!
Or the name of the thread to Supernova vs Black Hole
While that is exactly what I have always thought, it is a major contradiction of what Rodenberry was pushing with TNG. In fact this show is looking more like DS9 than TNG. Which is fine with me."Listen. No human society will ever be perfect, because no society will ever be perfect."
The fanciful notion that 24th century humans are "perfect" and have overcome every imaginable prejudice and vice is one I'm quite happy to toss in the dustbin. Humans striving to better themselves in spite of their flaws? Yes.
.
Why naturally, as it has Yvette Mimieux.Black Hole is the better movie.

One more real word political post that isn't in TNZ will be trouble for you.......just letting you know.I am speaking from the perspective knowing that Chabon is ultra liberal, and from seeing all his other social media material, and from interviews and his thoughts on today’s society. He has disdain for agencies such as ICE, for Police Departments, and he also great dislikes our military men and women and sees no need for a military at all.
Knowing all this you can easily read through the lines to get to his real meaning. And that’s fine, he is entitled to his own opinion!
My understanding of the rule is that Chabon's politics are on-point to exactly the extent that they are expressed in the show; it's legit to talk about the political vision expressed in a political show. But we can't do approach interpretation the other way around--trying to decode the show by using RW politics of the creators politics is a nonstarter. I suppose that means that the official policy of this board is New Criticism?
Oh, sure. But I was thinking about the space between criticism and silence.
Same here. My politics are not about what entertains me. Two separate fields.Honestly, I don't care about the politics, I care about being entertained.
I agree, it would be absurd if we can’t discuss politics as the show is commenting on our current political atmosphereThe show is commenting on political topics, so it would be absurd if that could not be discussed. I am sure it is very much the intent and hope of the creators that such aspects evoke discussion! But yeah, better limit the commentary on what's actually on screen and not speculate based on the assumed political stances of the creators.
All this shit happened in TNG, DS9 VOY and ENT as well.5.) Sex, Drugs and Rock'N'Roll! This isn't star trek, is it?
I find this answer to be the most egregious. So first it's, "no society is perfect, we're all crappy humans, blah blah blah". Okay? So, everything Gene said.. Everything he created.. TOS, TAS, TNG.. 10 movies.. It's all null and void because Michael Chabon says so?
Knives and forks in the other TNG era shows don't look that much different than they do now. Same with cups and other stuff.Shoes, utensils, knives, houses, etc... Yes they are "timeless", and yes they also change a crap ton in appearance each century. Stop insulting our intelligence.

TOS, TAS, TNG.. 10 movies.. It's all null and void because Michael Chabon says so? The hubris of this statement.. The entire basic concept of star trek was that we made it as a species.. We figured it out, we became the potential of humanity; not the struggle. It's all a lie, because.. Apparently it was only like that because of the FCC? I'm not sure how you can be an original fan of Star Trek and not be offended by this statement.
