McDonalds in Trek XI?

We will see Starfleet Officers eat at McDonalds in a scene set at Starfleet Acadamy when Kirk takes the Kobyashi Maru. I have always wondered why we havent seen restaurant scenes in Trek lore. I think we saw Sisko at one in New Orleans in Deep Space 9. Anyway, I cant wait to see what a 23rd century McDonalds looks like. I guess Burger King will be around then as well as Taco Bell like in the Stallone movie set in the future.

Source? Though I admit the kitsch of it kinda works for me... and brings a "real world" feel Trek otherwise lacks.

I think it will be highly unlikely, i would hope the obesity epidemic will be cured by then, and the first thing would be to get rid of Micky'D's. I dont think any of these food chains will exist, not with invention of food synthsizers. I cant believe this is even a question on here. lol.

I wouldn't eat synthesized food if you payed me (it insults my instincts as a foodie) and removing choice, never mind blaming a business for someones or cultures lack of control isn't the means to fixing said "epidemic". I heard recently this "epidemic" might be traced back to the depression and is nothing more then our bodies compensating for scarcity. Wouldn't that blow the Vegans and diet industry out of the water?

Why not, they got a Coca Cola product placement into ENT!

If they can fly faster than light, they can make a burger & fries that is as good for you as bean sprouts but tastes as good as the original. So why would anyone eat anything BUT junk food?

Also, couldn't transporters be used for cosmetic surgery? Just set the transporter to evaporate the excess part of your body!

One of the space Nazi time travel episodes at the beginning of S4. There was a Coke machine in a background shot - that was FUNNY! Bastards finally did it. :D

At least they weren't driving around in a Nissan Rogue talking on an iPhone.

Somebody said the same thing about the Enterprise Pilot episode before it came out. The crew with stop off at Mcdonalds and the ship would get vandalised while they were eating.

Wonder how many combos they would have and what would be on the menu.

Maybe as an alternative to fries, they could have those coloured cubes as a side order.

So basically...this established that Coca-Cola was endorsed by the Space Nazi regime? Was this supposed to help the product? Does Coke even know about this?

I guess that means we can rule out any robots that will transform into Coke cans in the Space Nazi Universe. :(

Doing product placements is a great way of reducing the budget of a movie. In the last James Bond movie his Ericsson phone was constantly shown on the screen, and previously they have done other products like BMW. Even "2001" had Pan Am and IBM in it, though in that case Kubrick wanted that to create a believable futuristic look for his movie, I am not sure if they received any money from those companies.

But product placement in a movie set centuries from now is probably too much of a distraction, instead of making the future more believable (as in case of 2001), it may do the reverse.

I'm sure Trek XI will be loaded with all kinds of product placement. Kirk will drink Red Bull. Scotty will eat Lays chips. The computer monitors will be NEC flat panel monitors. Communicators will be supplied by Verizon Wireless. When the crew is working out in the Enterprise's gym, they'll be wearing Nike gym clothes.
