    That article sucks.

Article writer: "Taking place in an entirely new timeline from The Next Generation"
Frakes: "Patrick isn't playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard this time, he's done with Starfleet in this show. That's about the only thing I do know."

Emphasis Captain. The 'new timeline' thing is straight outta their ass.

Tom Hardy has already played young Picard and has since become an A-List movie star. Why not try to get him again if it ever came up.

To be fair, neither did Tom Hardy, nor Marcus Nash ("Tapestry").

What an awful article. First, it's not in a separate timeline. It's already been well established that this is Prime Picard. Whoever wrote that doesn't understand the news he's reporting. Presumably he meant "era", but words matter.

Second, the article says he's not captain because he's "done with that phase of his life". NOT that he hasn't yet reached that phase of his life.

Lastly, we already know the series will be set 20 years post-Nemesis. That's not "Young Picard in a different timeline".

If he wants to do it then power to McAvoy.

However, just because he played a young version of a Stewart character in another franchise doesn't make him the go-to for anyone looking to do a de-aged Patrick Stewart on the cheap.

To my mind he bears little resemblance, either physically or vocally.

They should just de-age him like Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. And that's not sarcasm, I genuinely thought that was awesome

Because Tom Hardy playing young Picard was the lowest point in his career, making him turn to drugs until he was able to work his way back to Mad Max and Venom. Why on earth would he ever do that again?

This is nitpicking, but I just want to point out that they didn't de-age Bridges in Tron Legacy, not in the way that they did in movies like Michael Douglas in Ant-Man or Patrick Stewart himself in X-Men The Last Stand. For Tron, another actor entirely played Clu and young Flynn, and they replaced his head with a fully CGI Bridges noggin.
