A friendly note about the word "literature" -- it just means anything written. It's used incorrectly all the time, but less so in recent years. The word literary fiction is used more frequently these days, but I have problems with that word too.

I have had relationships with two different English teachers, I should have known better than using the term so easily.

I just finished watching "Wonder Man" (and I loved it!). I noticed that, despite having aliens, wizards, literally gods and cutting-edge technology, the MCU is incredibly similar to ours, featuring the same historical figures and the same films: what's the odds?

This amazes me because I'm so used to alternate history novels where a tiny detail changes history and civilization forever ;)

The MCU world was basically a carbon copy of our world until the first "Iron Man" movie. They did have things like Shield and Hydra but even if the first "Iron Man" war you still have something like the Iraq and Afghanistan war happening. Though I do wonder. The director in Wonder Man won a Oscar. Makes me wonder who real world Oscar winner he knocked out to win that reward. Also we know that have been tons of comic book movies in the MCU based off the real Super Heroes. I notice they are doing a movie based off the Steve Rogers play. I wonder if that is them trying to make more money off the Steve Rogers person, after doing several movies already about him as Captain America. Was Captain America played by Chris Evans who just happened to look a great deal like the real Steve Rogers.

It's something we once talked about when discussing Marvel TV shows back when they were still on Netflix.

It seems like superheroes, even before Iron Man, didn't occupy the same niche in MCU pop culture as they do in ours. Yes, the MCU has adaptations of "real" superhero adventures, but it seems like a new concept.

Even the 1980 "Wonder Man" film we see in the series of the same name feels more like Flash Gordon than a superhero.

I do think DC comics exist in the MCU so my guess is the MCU still had Batman and Superman movies. Perhaps Wonder Man was part of some other brand that was sort of their Marvel.

Someone said that in-universe someone called "Wonder Man" a superhero movie, but really don't remember....

It is interesting that it was made in the 1980's. It's only real competitors would be the Superman spin-offs and then Batman in 1989. I feel like the Wonder Man movie must have not been a big hit but maybe became a cult classic afterwords. Perhaps the rise of real Superheros is what sparked the interest in that big time director wanting to make a movie about it.

They explicitly said it was part of a franchise of multiple movies

No the change happened when Trevor Slattery became an actor.

Have any of the Marvel movies made references to DC Comics directly or ambiguously?

I think Agents of SHIELD did. idk about the Netflix shows.

I know The Flash CW series made a few references to Marvel comics.

lol imagine a alternate earth where both dc comics and marvel comics had crossovers on tv shows and movies

No, I simply pointed out what a REAL historic failure was.

Irrelevant to MCU's failures in this MCU topic where Marvel Studios employees made no excuse using--or reference to any other film or franchise. They live in reality, the realm opposite of the one you so clearly occupy and run to whenever the MCU is discussed in ways not leaning toward your absolute celebration of the franchise.

Which employees, exactly?

Since the article was posted in this thread, you can stop pretending you do not know what was referred to. Ahh, but this is the failed game you've attempted over and over again: either ignore that which you have responded to before ( ), or fail to prove legitimate sources were false, otherwise, your hyper-defensive ass would've have posted something barely resembling a counter, instead of your usual, white-knuckled ranting. Whoops.

Again, you can lie and pretend the quotes were not posted in this thread (then it follows you would need to delete your responses to the quotes in order to pretend you were unaware of it...which is far too late for you to try), all to sell your "MCU has neverrrrr had failures, damn it!!!" routine, but you cannot erase the views of Marvel Studios employees--the true insiders on this matter.

Yeah, the total lack of self awareness really is quite amusing.

This from JD--the foolish boy who routinely enters threads, posts wildly nonsensical statements and accusations, and when confronted, pretends he was "lil' 'ol innocent' JD". This from JD, who--in 2025--ranted about no reference made about the dog dying in the case of the tragic deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife--to the point others had to try to make you understand that human beings are generally valued more than dogs. The fact this had to be pointed out to you--and I'll add you still failed to comprehend any of it--speaks volumes, and not a bit of it is positive.

Shuffle off, and do not attempt to make excuses--the usual course of your back-footed positions.

For someone who calls himself a "God" your views are very narrow minded.

For someone one can assume has eyes, you could not put together the "god" reference is in the avatar--about the 1st "God-like" character in Star Trek history, not the member. It should not be so difficult to figure that out.

I can think of one powerfully renowned, endlessly celebrated and sexually infamous actress that can turn it all around for Marvel, after distressing this designer bombshell's own triumphant arrival on the global stage as a star.

Woo her.

Seduce her.

Get the mouse to dump a truck load of greenbacks in her yard.

Melania Trump.

No, no, no, hear me out...

It's not such a stretch, if she can do a Middle English accent, since Morgana Le Fay and Victor Von Doom have been snugly love bunnies for dog years, so why should it be unbelievable that the most evil man in the universe doesn't have a hot piece of Eurotrash in his corner?

:D
 :bolian:

It couldn't hurt!

You didn't answer the question

Then quote it.
