I have had relationships with two different English teachers, I should have known better than using the term so easily.
I just finished watching "Wonder Man" (and I loved it!). I noticed that, despite having aliens, wizards, literally gods and cutting-edge technology, the MCU is incredibly similar to ours, featuring the same historical figures and the same films: what's the odds?
This amazes me because I'm so used to alternate history novels where a tiny detail changes history and civilization forever

The MCU world was basically a carbon copy of our world until the first "Iron Man" movie. They did have things like Shield and Hydra but even if the first "Iron Man" war you still have something like the Iraq and Afghanistan war happening. Though I do wonder. The director in Wonder Man won a Oscar. Makes me wonder who real world Oscar winner he knocked out to win that reward. Also we know that have been tons of comic book movies in the MCU based off the real Super Heroes. I notice they are doing a movie based off the Steve Rogers play. I wonder if that is them trying to make more money off the Steve Rogers person, after doing several movies already about him as Captain America. Was Captain America played by Chris Evans who just happened to look a great deal like the real Steve Rogers.
It's something we once talked about when discussing Marvel TV shows back when they were still on Netflix.
It seems like superheroes, even before Iron Man, didn't occupy the same niche in MCU pop culture as they do in ours. Yes, the MCU has adaptations of "real" superhero adventures, but it seems like a new concept.
Even the 1980 "Wonder Man" film we see in the series of the same name feels more like Flash Gordon than a superhero.

Someone said that in-universe someone called "Wonder Man" a superhero movie, but really don't remember....
It is interesting that it was made in the 1980's. It's only real competitors would be the Superman spin-offs and then Batman in 1989. I feel like the Wonder Man movie must have not been a big hit but maybe became a cult classic afterwords. Perhaps the rise of real Superheros is what sparked the interest in that big time director wanting to make a movie about it.
