Yes. I didn't know it was one back in the day. Heck back then I didn't know the difference between Marvel and DC.
One of my friends still is - though I'd say at this point he's seen at least 95 percent of the film output (less of the tv/streaming stuff) since the 90s

I was first introduced to the character through Spiderman the animated series which the movie took elements from. Or that might be the other way around. The animated series took elements from the unmade script... I'm not sure which is true. But for me that's how I saw Blade. So I was definitely aware of who he was and excited about the movie.

The animated marvel shows of the 90s helped Avi Arad pave the way for the movies.
Not sure about scripts but the visual look of Blade is established for the modern era in Nightstalkers 1 (1992), then we get the animated series (1996) which also uses that look and then the film (1998) which locks in the look for good.

Blade and Abraham Whistler first appeared onscreen in 1996 in the Spider-Man: TAS episode "Blade the Vampire Hunter"; the Blade movie wasn't released until 1998.

And Blade was definitely depicted as visibly dark-skinned in/on Spider-Man: TAS.

And people that can read understood that what @JoeZhang said was, it depended on the type of tv you had. Now, me being poor growing up ment that at the time we had an old busted 80's tv set. Trust me, it was unclear. Not that the experiences of other people mean anything to you. We all know that only you are correct and the rest of us are dumb sheep.

Only nerds pay attention to the opening and closing credits.
Years before the advent (or at least popular usage) of post-credits scenes, I was one of those few people who genuinely enjoyed watching the entire closing credits after films, even if it annoyed my friends sometimes.

Which is why I always laugh when viewers get audibly upset when a film they expected to have a post-credits scene doesn't have one, such as Wakanda Forever (I maintain that was a wise choice on Coogler's part).

I'm happiest when a film has a proper opening credit sequence, instead of sticking them all at the end the way modern films tend to do.
The one thing that really bugs me is when movies don't show the title until the end of the movie.
Chris Claremont claims that Famke Janssen will be back as Jean Grey in Doomsday, despite Janssen saying in that she won't. Claremont did say that Chris Evans was coming back before the announcement was made, so he has revealed accurate information before. According to the IGN article he did work as a X-Men consultant on Doomsday, so he does possibly have insider information. Although if he keeps talking like this, I'm imaging he won't be working for Marvel Studios anymore.

Apocalypse Now originally had no on-screen credit scenes at all.

Since it was first released, various versions of end credit scenes have existed, but no opening credits.

I think it would be a missed opportunity to have Angela Bassett show up as an alternate Storm. That would certainly be a big moment in the theater.

My intro to Blade was via the Tomb of Dracula comic in the Seventies, so to me he's always been a comic book character. It interesting that we've seen several of Marvel's "horror" characters in the MCU. Ghost Rider, Blade, Man Thing, Werewolf by Night, Hellstrom/storm and Moon Knight. Like Blade, Moon Knight debuted as an adversary of the title character, Jack Russell the Werewolf by Night.
Just need Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster and the Living Mummy to show up.

I'm still holding out for the Manphibian and Hellcow. :)

Seriously, I won't be happy until Mia Goth finally plays Lilith, Daughter of Dracula, onscreen.

(Says the guy who used to write Marvel Monster fanfic in high school.)
