Tough situation for the Gunn film. If the FF has any advantage, its the fact its finally the MCU version of the concept, and with that, there might be certain expectations regarding the team eventually mainlined into upcoming films (or, that's what some are suspecting, despite Feige complaining about that kind of format for MCU movies).
We already know from the Thunderbolts post credit scene that the F4 are going to coming into the 616 by the beginning of Doomsday, since it was more or less a scene from Doomsday.
Exactly; its quite laughable for anyone to claim there's "consumer confidence" with Cap4 or Thunderbolts, when the actual profit beyond the investment is considered. Both films underperformed to a great degree, which is part of the recent MCU trend of major flops. This places a great deal of pressure on the FF to be the "transplant" necessary for the MCU to move forward.

Neither of them "underperformed", considering the huge smear campaign against both films. Neither flopped either, in fact there is no "Recent MCU trend" of major flops. You've simply jumped on the hater bandwagon
I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with @TREK_GOD_1 when it comes to the MCU, but Brave New World definitely underperformed and might even qualify as a flop, Thunderbolts did better, but I'm not sure if it did well enough to get out of the underperfomer category and might be just on the border of being another flop. And there was no "smear campaign" against either of them, Brave New World just didn't get a great reaction, but Thunderbolts on the other hand seemed to be a pretty positive reaction from what I've seen.
I think at this point we MCU fans might just have to accept that the MCU definitely is on a pretty big downward trend right now. There does seem to be a fair amount of enthusiasm for F4, but only time will tell what that means for the movie when it comes out.

I'm over here, silly old me, just wanting to enjoy the films without the preaching about whether a film is a flop or not.

Did I enjoy Brave New World? No, I have a lot of fundamental issues with it, as I recently readdressed in the review thread.

Did I enjoy Thunderbolts*? Hell fucking yes!

Do I care how either of them performed in the box office? Nope!

I'm just sick and tired everyone focusing on box office takes and ratings and so on as if that's what determines my enjoyment of the film, or anyone else's for that matter!

So please stop acting like it matters beyond certain people loving to jump on the doomsaying wagon.

This rant extends to everything going on with Doctor Who right now and exactly the same kind of people.

Ya'll way to preoccupied with box office and what other people think and should STFU and watch the damned movie and THEN decide if YOU like it or not. Not what social media or 'THE HOLY BOX OFFICE' says.

FFS......

In the end that is all that I care about. If I like the movie or not. But it still can be fun to speculate about other aspects as well. People got to talk about something.

I only care about it because of what it means for the future of the series. There are tons of movies I love that were absolute flops, even more so than the last few MCU movies, like The Last Witch Hunter and Jupiter Ascending.
I like to see things that I enjoy do well enough to get more installments so I can continue to enjoy it with other movies or seasons or whatever.

For me, some of the biggest box office successes in the MCU were the biggest disappointments for me. I know I'm in the minority on those films and I haven't really posted my "feelings" about them --and even the worst of the MCU is still pretty good to me (excluding Secret Invasion). On the other hand, some of my favorites were considered to be under performers.

When someone hands me some Disney stock I'll maybe give a shit about box office performance of a Marvel film. No, I don't care if it does well. I don't care if a sequel gets made. I don't care about the pop culture impact and I don't care if people remember it next year.

My investment begins and ends with "Did I feel I got my ticket price's worth?"

Er, you forgetting the very negative reaction Sam got for becoming the new Cap right from day one?

I enjoyed Star Trek Beyond way more than most people did.
But am I sad that the box office for it was a flop? Yes.
Why? Because that flop made Paramount dump the KT like it didn't matter anymore.
You're delusional if you think box office doesn't matter.
To you or me, personally, yeah it doesn't matter.
But to the health of a certain IP whichever it is, it definitely matters.

As for DW, I don't follow the show and I am not even a fan beyond liking a couple of episodes from more than a decade ago.
And I understand why the fans are frustrated and it has nothing to do with what apologists are saying.

I understand that you are old. But there is no need to be so angry. People can talk or argue about whatever they want, movie box offices may not matter to you, they don't matter to me either. But it is important for companies, companies do not want to invest in series that do not make money for them.

Go back and read what I said again. It doesn't matter to me.

Of course the box office matters to the studios but that doesn't mean I want to talk about it ad nauseum.

Because here's the thing: All of the worried discussions won't change a damn thing.

I use to care until I realized that it didn't matter. All that matters is if I enjoyed the film.

I understand that you are old. But there is no need to be so angry.
:guffaw:

Oh. Wait. You're serious. Let me laugh even harder.

See my above response to StarTrek1701

My ultimate point is I'm sick and tired of every discussion thread derailing into meaningless arguments about box office takes. If it's that important to y'all, start a separate thread and let the rest of us enjoy talking about what we liked and didn't like about the films themselves.

Box office numbers mean little to me. All I hope is that the box office is good enough for Marvel to keep making these movies because they haven't even started on the X-Men yet and I can't wait to see what they do with them.

They kinda did with The Marvels and Deadpool 3. Kinda.

People got to talk about something.
...and talk they do, but I've noticed some are quick to jump on the "I don't care about box office" when a favorite film (or franchise) begins to slip in audience interest (and obviously, box office earnings), yet some of the same people used box office strength as a cudgel against films they did not like (whenever possible) so they're operating from a contradictory narrative.

For me, some of the biggest box office successes in the MCU were the biggest disappointments for me.
I can relate to that.
