The descriptions sound like they have a pretty good handle on the characters, but that's pretty much to be expected from the MCU at this point.

Except Johnny Storm. Apparently they have decided to neuter him because that is what people modern people want and he is more nice so no more pranks and messing with Ben. I have a feeling people are really going to be missing Chis Evans version of the character after this movie and miss the comedy hijinks between him and Ben in those earlier movies.

It was something the actor said in one of the interviews about what they were going for. Basically everything people liked about the character is something that people won't like today. Nevermind that the entire MCU was build off the back of Tony Stark. A character who was everything Johnny Storm was and who we saw grow and change from playboy with little responsibility in life to hero and family man.

You ever read the comics?

No but I have seen the movies and I do understand when someone is talking about taking away a interesting edge to a character. I know each characters powers are suppose to be somewhat reflective of each characters personality, hence he is suppose to kind of a hothead. Not some goody two shoes type. I have no problem with them changing and evolving the character but I feel we should see it told through story and have it be a character arc.

Johnny is not a hot head. He a fun loving kid who likes fast cars and practical jokes. Ben is actually the hot head of the team. Which is something Johnny exploits.

Nothing I’ve seen in the trailer indicates Johnny is some sort of goody two shoes. He seems to be a joker and maybe a bit of a slacker. Possibly impulsive too. No one is gonna mistake him for Steve Rogers.

I was going more off the interview than the trailer. The trailer is kind of vague. We don't see much personality in the trailer. I would love to at least see a hint of him and Ben having banter where he makes fun of him and gets mad and all that kind of stuff.

Where is this interview?
Almost every scene with Johnny in the trailer is “personality!”

Johnny is not a hot head.

The comic Johnny has been a hot head on numerous occasions throughout his published history, especially during the 1960s and 70s, and not just with Ben, but Spider-Man (when he was not trying to be a buddy to him), Namor, various members of the X-Men, et al.

I don't look at it just as a issue of comic book accuracy. I am fine with changes. When I look at show or movies characters my first thought is were does the drama and conflict come from. Seems like any team or this case family/team you always need that bad boy/rogue etc type for variety and internal conflict. But for drama but also comedy. Not sure how Johnny being well behaved actually enhances the story.

I do see his old personality also as a flaw that he can evolve and grow out of like we saw with Tony Stark though I would be curious how they would do it differently. If I was doing it I would have Johnny actually eventually become the leader of the Fantastic 4. Not sure if they ever did that in the comics but it would be something different from Tony Stark whose growth was to become a family man.

Links? Quotes?

I don't know how to make links to things outside of YouTube but if you look into Joseph Quinn interview and IndieWire it covers it. I will give one quote thought by retyping it.

"Myself and Kevin(Feige) were speaking about previous iterations of him and where we are culturally. He was branded as this womanizing,devil-may-care guy, but is that sexy these days? I don't think so. This version of Johnny is less callous with other people's feelings, and hopefully there's a self-awareness about what's driving that attention-seeking behavior."

The whole thing screams "watered down" even by PG-13 standards. I get what they are probably going to go for. A more polite, neutered version of Deadpool. He will make Dad jokes and like to show off but nothing that strikes me as all that interesting, especially since we already got a great version of the character in Chris Evans. I mean I know they aren't exactly making a A24 movie but Disney really seems keen these days on sanding down the edges and making characters less interesting with less personality more and more with each passing year.
