I think that perhaps the author of that article simply made a mistake, possibly confused by Ross's nickname and the title of the the movie following the movie that he's actually appearing in. Here is an article from yesterday from the same site that is specifically about the cast of Thunderbolts*, and Ford is not even mentioned.

Yeah, that's fair (what, io9 made a mistake in one of their articles? NEVER!). I gave them the benefit of the doubt (at the time of my original post) because I thought they were reporting what had been stated at the convention itself. The fact that no one else has seemed to have reported it supports that it may have indeed been a mistake.

And yeah, I saw that io9 article earlier today and wasn't surprised they didn't say anything about Ford. But, to be fair, they're only talking about what was seen in the actual trailer. Not saying it's proof that Ford is in it, just saying that it's still a possibility.

I imagine there's still plenty we don't know about this film that hasn't been revealed yet.

Looking into it some more I think the industry reporters and leakers are themselves not really sure, possibly because of confusion of sources but also possibly because of various industry reporters themselves being confused about which of these two movies is which (I saw several articles that don't seem to understand these are 2 different movies. And one that called Ford's character 'Red Hawk'. :cardie:)

I also found a reddit thread linking to a Deadline post claiming Ford was in Thunderbolts, but people in the reddit thread referenced a lot of other industry articles they'd seen that claimed the same thing only to be edited later and have the Ford info removed from the article. And when I clicked on the Deadline piece, it already said nothing about Ford. So it seems like a lot of people are putting the idea out there, then realizing they don't know for sure if it's true and removing it, but then other people already got the idea and think 'it's common knowledge' and then go on to make the same mistake in some other article. I even saw an article where someone asked David Harbour about it and automatically interpreted Harbour's response that he had no idea as not being sure if he was allowed to talk about it, rather than genuinely not knowing anything.

There is one potential source I can find, though. Apparently when Ford's casting was first announced 2 years ago, The Hollywood Reporter claimed he was signed to appear in both Cap 4 and T-bolts. And they've apparently never retracted that. But as far as I can tell, it's also never been confirmed by Marvel, either.

Hm, perhaps the idea is that at the end of Cap4, Thunderbolt Ross is no longer president and the end of Thunderbolts* will see him leading this new team. Hence the *. They won't be called that until he becomes part of it.
I dunno, just speculating here.

Good to know it's not just me then. Either way, Marvel perhaps should be provide better clarity on this matter...unless obfuscation is the point. Wouldn't be the first time.

For the purposes of hyping a film, yes. That said, maybe they want to keep Ford's involvement a surprise. But like I said before, I thought that was something confirmed at Comic-Con.

Real life professions use the place before the group:

New York Fire Department
San Francisco Police Department
United States Air Force
etc

The Avengers fall more in line with that category than that of names of TV shows.
Nah, they’re a franchise with name brand recognition and an organizational unity. There is no Police Department with branches in every city.

And IIRC, it’s Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY)

CSI: Miami. NCIS: Hawaii.

Those are fiction titles, where the city names are subtitles differentiating the series within the franchise, the same as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager. They aren't the actual names of the organizations in-story.

"So is that in stock at the Colerain Best Buy or the Springdale Best Buy?" "You wanna meet at the Cheviot Arby's or the Norwood Arby's?"

I'm guessing Thunderbolts* will end with a new title card

Like how in the credits of the final episode of 'The Falcon and the Winter Solider', title card changed to "Captain American and the Winter Soldier"

I was thinking that as well. But I do think we will get a character reveal as well the people aren't expecting. I don't know enough about The Thunderbolts in the comics though to know which other characters have been seen as part of that team. I am about to go look that info up though to see.

Just looked it up. I suppose Ross being made leader at the end and basically replacing Elanie would be one thing. How wild would it be if Deadpool was in the post-credits. I noticed he was on the team, before. Ant-Man and The Punisher would for sure get people excited as well. Also Zemo. The out of left field though would be Black Widow from a alternate timeline. I think just about these options would get people excited at the end of the movie.
