Yeah -- it seems more likely they'd build up to that as they did with Thanos. Establish him in an FF film and maybe in a background role in some other films, showing him as a world leader of growing influence.
I would be very happy if Doom made his debut in the periphery of another movie.
The old rumour that he’d debut in a cameo as a peer of T’Challa in a Black Panther movie was something I liked.

I think one thing which Kang is currently missing is an equivalent of Thanos twatting the Hulk with ease.

It’s one thing to say “I’ve killed so many avengers, I can’t even remember which one you might be” (only then to be beaten by team comic relief in a punching match). There’s got to be a beat where this boast is backed up. And not on a variant either. He’s got to beat a main MCU powerhouse, definitively. If he doesn’t, he’s a neutered joke.

He really wasn't 'beaten in a punching match'. And people's insistance on treating Scott like he's nothing other than comic relief is genuinely bizarre. Yeah, his movies are comedies. So are the Iron Man, Spider-man, Thor and GotG movies. He's still a superhero in a starring role. Dude literally killed Cull Obsidian.

Kang does need some more show instead of tell, but at the moment he's arguably ahead of schedule in that regard compared to Thanos who did nothing but mug for the camera and make speeches until Infinity War.

That's part of the problem isn't it? So he's defeated the Avengers - just go to Earth-56436 and get some more. It's hard to be extra-ordinary when your defining trait applies to everyone.

I wonder if a version of Kang might be the final boss in season 3 of What If...? That seems like a good use for him. After all, he's a multiversal threat and that's the multiversal show, and it would give the recurring characters an excuse for another finale team-up. Plus a lot of the major characters are recast for animation anyway.

That really isn't a bad idea. Wrapping up the Kang story line, re-tool the 5th Avengers movie into something else.... And you're done.

I'm not suggesting it as a retool; that would be unlikely because they're already working on season 3. Animation needs years of lead time. So the story plans for season 3 are probably already locked down. And movies have a similar lead time and inertia. They can't change plans on a dime.

Modern animation forms have a pretty quick turn around these days. I'm not saying they should, but technically it is possible. Depending on when they are releasing season 3 that is.

Plus, as a character, Kang’s appeal has never been his personal power. It was in being Alexander the Great in purple thigh-highs, military ruler of a conquering army.

Shame that instead of showing that Antman cut to a lot of variants howling like they were lunatics.

Yeah that really threw me off. I am not well known with the Kang character, as explained above. So I wasn't sure if that was befitting of the character or not

Yeah, I could see a slow build up to Doom's first full appearance. He's probably one of the comics' most famous villains, so I would make sense to build anticipation for him finally showing up in the MCU.

I like that idea. It is a bit odd that the big multiverse series hasn't really tied into the big multiverse story very much.

I know it's a lot lower quality animation than What If? but don't they put together new episodes of South Park in just a few days? I think I read somewhere they have an extra fast production time so they can keep up with current events.

I think the best way, at this point, to get people to take Kang seriously would be to have whichever version they use for their "primary" Kang show up and kill Thor.

Yup. But like you said, a lot lower quality. But even some of the kids shows these days on tv can be produced quite quickly these days.

Ever since Jonathan Majors' legal problems began nearly a year ago, many have either claimed that Kang was a failure as a villain or that Majors wasn't that great of an actor. The thing is that Kang's arc has not finished and we haven't really seen the most dangerous aspect of the character. Not yet. On the other hand, before Majors' problems, many fans have been waxing lyrical about the character and the actor's performance skills.

It's one thing to judge Majors for his actions or reactions to his ex-girlfriend. It's another to use his legal troubles as an excuse to put down his acting skills and Kang's obviously unfinished character arc. When will this hypocrisy end?

Kang is a failure as far as I can see and it’s nothing to do with the actor - his introduction was poorly managed and he comes across as a putz.

It seems to me that they were going for an unconventional villain with Kang, someone more quirky like the Grandmaster than Thanos. Was that never going to work for an MCU villain or did they just fail to get it right?
