Hooray, 'WandaVision' is getting a physical release in a fancy Steelbook case.

Except, all you're getting is the case and some fluff; no actual discs.

Quick, someone make a note of the time the world finally, officially went mad.

What's the case for, then? The homemade discs they presume people have made themselves?

After a bit of further digging, these are aimed at the people who collect Steelbook cases and hang them on their walls as display pieces, which is apparently a thing. So not quite so crazy, though I'd rather buy the actual episodes and have them come in a plain cardboard box.

Everyone is selfish, one way or the other. What are you angry about? Does everyone have to agree about everything?
Man, this isn't the first time you've gone out of your way to prounce your desire for something not to exist for an entity you don't care about, and when someone rightfully calls you out on the selfishness of that desire (because it would take away from those who do want it), you cry oppression.

You're not fooling anyone.

With Secret Invasion's conclusion as perhaps the MCU's first true creative failure for a TV series as felt by more people than not (at least around here), I thought it would be a good time to review how the Disney+ shows are faring for people overall. That way we can direct tangents in the Secret Invasion thread on that topic over here (which I'm guilty of initiating).

For me, I've enjoyed to loved all of the shows until now, although I found The Falcon and the Winter Soldier lacking in some regards while Ms. Marvel had a couple of missteps (but I enjoyed both of them greatly overall). I think most of the shows have served themselves wonderfully while also adding to the larger tapestry of the MCU without feeling beholden to it. The performances in all of the shows have been stellar, including Secret Invasion whose actors kept the show from reaching outright bad levels and instead came out as disappointing and wasting great storytelling potential.

WandaVision, Loki, and What If...? were pitch perfect for me and I cannot wait to see more of what they may provide (whatever for that might be for Wanda and Vision). I know I'm in the minority regarding What If...? but I'm a huge sucker for alternate history stories and I thought every episode ranged from wonderfully utilized to absolutely spellbinding.

She-Hulk, Hawkeye, and Moon Knight all experimented with the format and I loved the character arcs that played out in each of them. I likewise can't wait to see more of them, even though their futures are less obvious (aside from Echo, Daredevil, and Kingpin).

1. WandaVision
2. Loki
3. What If...?
4. She-Hulk
5. Hawkeye
6. Moon Knight
7. Ms. Marvel
8. The Falcon and Winter Soldier
9. Secret Invasion

I have an idea of most people's opinions about most of these shows but I'm still curious to see how people feeling now that we're in a new phase (as of Secret Invasion).

So Sanity, the largest movie retailer in Australia, has said Disney told them they are no longer releasing any physical media down under, GotG 3 will be the last Disney product to get a physical release.

This matches up well with reports last month about Studios fully abandoning physical media and no longer even enforcing copyright on pirated dvds as long as they are physical, causing a new boom in piracy as it becomes the only way to actually get physical copies of media.

Also matches up with the weird collectors release of WandaVision that comes without the show. Which has actually been happening with gaming for awhile now.

Won't be long until it happens everywhere else too.

...but I know I liked Ms. Marvel a lot more than many people seem to.
I think the same is true for me, but there were a few weird choices in the middle that felt off for me. Overall, I think it was a wonderful show that's not quite good as the ones I ranked higher than it. I cannot wait to see Kamala's role in The Marvels.

Ugghhhhhhh...

I'm not at all surprised but that doesn't make me any less pissed off about this development. The studios are ready to implode everything for their insatiable greed.

Loved Hawkeye, really liked WandaVision, Loki, What If...? and Ms. Marvel. But all of these shows should have been movies, and probably would have worked better, except for WandaVision which seemed to be the only one to really embrace the medium.

Most of those would not have worked nearly as well as movies. Hawkeye was mostly a character-driven show, and a single movie is too short to have the necessary amount of character development. What If...? was an anthology, and thus clearly better suited for a series format; while there have been anthology films in the past, they're very uncommon these days (the last one I can think of was Twilight Zone: The Movie), and generally only have room for 3-4 stories.

And Ms. Marvel was way too short, not too long. It needed more episodes to develop the Jersey City side of the story. The show did a pretty good job capturing the feel of the original comic, at least as well as any other MCU production has done, and the comic was an ongoing serialized narrative running for years. A movie wouldn't have done it justice. (You could make the same case about Hawkeye, which was very strongly influenced by the Matt Fraction run on the comic, right down to using its title logo.)

Why? They haven't even gotten to Red Hulk yet!

Besides. You're not going to watch the movie, so why even voice a complaint for something you're not going to see?

The Internet.

...or personal choice.

You know, you're right. I won't be watching it. Still . . . I wish the MCU had gotten rid of the character. Pity.

After the Thanos incident, what costumed character (who put their lives on the line for "all the marbles" so to speak) would even listen to or respect anyone such as Ross at this point? With his history (involvement with the Abomination), you'd believe that corrupt, deadly reputation would have been used to disregard his alleged authority--something that everyone in that Avengers conference room should have hurled at him in Civil War. Oh well, another lost opportunity when that would have matter most to a story.

Okay yeah, I didn't mean to include What If...? in my "make them movies" opinion, it just got lost in there amongst the rest of them.

When it comes to the current D+ MCU shows, my current rankings and some thoughts

Great:
WandaVision (Episodes 4-9, once the plot started and the pure sitcom parodies stopped the show got very good)
Loki

Good:
Hawkeye

OK:
Moon Knight
What If?
(Some episodes are good, some are terrible, it averages out to an ok show for me)

Bad:
Wandavision (Episodes 1-3, the old sitcom parodies with basically no plot development were intolerable)
The Falcon and Winter Soldier (I liked Sam and Bucky in this, but the plot and non-US Agent villains sucked)
She-Hulk (A show made by people that seem to hate the comics and character of She-Hulk in general, but the last episode was mildly amusing, and it was nice to see Daredevil)

Didn't Finish:
Secret Invasion (The first episode bored me, and negative reviews kept me from finishing it, although I did read a general plot synopsis and am glad I didn't bother)

Didn't Watch at All:
Ms. Marvel (Don't care about the character, so didn't bother watching)

I like the diversity we have been getting, though sometimes hard to get my family interested anymore, at least as a whole.

No one was excited about Secret Invasion, and i too was pretty disappointed. Getting major deaths that felt like little consequence...not living up to potential, and not seeing how it would connect to future Marvel stuff nor an end credits scene, which have been hallmarks for most productions, and got me excited for the next thing.

Ms. Marvel was much higher for me, because it really related to my daughters, and had that fan-feel that i also connected with.

Also Falcon & Winter Soldier was high due to the different social issues they addressed, as well as really showing a true continuity of character (as we began to meet Sam, he was a counselor...we see him do that, and show his Captain AMerica-Worthiness in a good way in the show). However the violence and language was a but much for one daughter.

Wow...it looks like i will get to see the return of the Bootleg Man at my local Popeye's Fried Chicken restaurant!

While i totally get not wanting to mass produce DVD's.... wouldn't it make sense to license out to speciality dealers who can MAKE individual hary copy DVD's for people who want to buy them?

Those operators, in individual cities, could sell them in stores or by mail. They just have a special app that records each copy so they have to pay accordingily (and a mailbox to send in defective ones, and not get charged) . Seems like an easy way to make up.
