Huh, Quantumania is out on digital, but not on Disney+. There is no D+ release date
it releases on physical release May 16th

Disney realized that they were leaving money on the table by making it free on Disney+ at the same time it went on sale digitally.

Yeah I think streaming services realize they do NOT have to have new material like that all the time.... there was some wisdom in old model of a cheaper "second run" (first in dollar theaters, then video store rental, now digital sale and rental, which can now be easily done simultaneously)... as long as it part of the Disney Plus library eventually, it will work for them

So, one thing has occurred to me...

...Why was there backlash to Sam taking over and Cap and Riri potentially being an Iron Man inspired character but no one has complained about Yelena becoming the new Black Widow?

I'd very much prefer not to believe it's because she's the same gender and skin color as Natasha...

It's definitely because of that.

I think for a lot of the criticisms that is definitely what constitutes the greatest amount. I remember how much hate John Stewart got when they decided on him for the Justice League cartoon.

Now, I know that doesn't mean EVERY SINGLE person who disagrees with it falls into that category.

You can definitely make a case for Yelena fitting the 'assuming the mantle' more appropriately than the others just from the sense she was A BLACK WIDOW, she was also Nat's 'fake sister', and their powers/abilities are basically all the same.

I know there were a few people hoping Sam took some version of the serum to become 'stronger' because they want Captain America to have the same powers or similar powers to what Steve had.

I also think there are people who wanted to see Rhodey become 'Iron man' so for those people it's wanting there to have been some kind of 'tie' or 'connection' to who previously was in the suit even though his actual personality and 'inventor/creator' level is completely different from Tony.

Those are good points, and if somebody argued that point of view, I could respect that.

Unfortunately, this kind of backlash happens in the comics too. Was there the same amount of outrage when Bucky took over as Captain America as there was when Sam took over? Unfortunately, this kind of backlash happens everytime there is a gender ethnicity switch and (these days) people start using "woke" as a derogatory term and/or couching their opinions in other arguments to make them seem less sexist/racist. Remember when Michael B Jordan was cast as Johnny Storm or Jessica Alba as Sue? And just a few years ago on the DC side there was the outcry that Lightning Lad was black in the reboot.

And don't forget about Miles Morales even though he was in Ultimate and not in the main run of comics (although he was subsequently folded into the main run years later after Ultimate folded).

I also noted the people complaining about Miles *checks notes* existing, were oddly silent when the MCU's version of Ned Leeds was quite clearly Ganke Lee with a name change. Though at this rate I wouldn't be shocked if the MCU ends up reciprocating the switch by making Miles and Gwen a duo (not necessarily a couple) right from the off; with the latter having nothing to do with Peter . . . unless they fold the part of both her and Miles' respective origin stories where Peter dies into one narrative for when Holland exits from the franchise. In that case it could be more of a mentor/student dynamic for Peter and Gwen at least.
