Well.. since it's a spoiler thread and people have surely seen the trailer a thousand times by now i'll lay off the spoiler code.

If you watch the scene carefully you will notice that Mjolnir moves slightly when Cap tries to lift it (it even makes a tiny scratching sound on the table) and Thor notices it which leads to him losing his smug grin instantly to be replaced by astonishment.

If there was one person in that room who should be able to lift Mjolnir it would be Steve Rogers because he has all the qualities the Hammer wants its wielder to have.. honor, integrity, a warrior's heart and the skills to match it.

In the comics there were some occasions where Cap actually lifted the hammer on its own without some loopholes that makes it possible for some reason.

For the movie it could be speculated that Cap may have lifted the hammer but acted like he couldn't because he doesn't like to draw attention to himself much less be centerstage (unlike Thor who revels in the admiration of others). Maybe it was also a small clue as to what may happen later in the movie as theories go wild since Cap's Shield is shown broken it may mean the entire team is under serious pressure and Cap decides to use Mjolnir to save everybody.

We will see in a few months and i can't wait.

I know that in the comics, Cap can lift/has lifted it, which was why that scene threw me off but I'll accept that he could lift it but chose not to to not draw attention to himself.

He has too many self confidence issues. Mjolnir looks into his mind when he attempts to lift it and sees the tiny 5 foot nothing wuss still running Steve's life and thinks "yeah, not happening lol"

Plus, neutronium, good luck lifting that no matter how much you augment a human.

^Inner Steve may be a pushover but I wouldn't call him a wuss. His not backing down attitude was why he was chosen for the Super Soldier Program to begin with. Also, I don't think strength has anything to do with lifting it. In all reality, the hammer should fall to the center of the earth whenever Thor drops it. It's has to be magical.

" Your ancestors called it magic but you call it science. I come from a land where they are one and the same." :p:lol:

However i totally agree with you, the hammer seems to have a mind of its own and recognizes few masters and apparently only one boss, Odin.

And Bor before him. It's nepotism, pure and simple.

This is just my own speculation based on the films, but I tend to think that the way the hammer works is that it bends space-time around it. This is how it's able to "lock" itself in one location, making it quite literally an immovable object and at the same time explaining it's means of propulsion. It doesn't become heavier or lighter depending on who's holding it, but it allows itself to move (or not) depending on who's holding it.

There may even be a 4th dimensional element to it give how it was instantly able to detect Thor on the far side of the cosmos and tried to make a b-line straight for him the long way round. Evidentially it's not smart enough to even try to utilise open wormholes on it's own.

My theory is that since there was no need, and Steve was just trying to pick it up to see if he could, he wasn't deemed worthy. If there was an actual need and he was picking it up to help someone or to defeat something evil, he would be.

Do you mean "Uru" ? The special metal the hammer is made of?

I like that one, so just sitting around using it as a drinking game, no, but in need, possibly. Cool :techman:

I'm still avoiding the Avengers:AoU thread and this might have been discussed there but in the newest trailer...

Why isn't Cap able to lift Thor's hammer? I had a feeling we'd see Cap using the hammer in a last effort assault but it seems he's just not worthy? How the hell is Cap not worthy?

Good question, my thoughts exactly!

I think it was Avengers 390? After the mansion was destroyed and they were headquarted on Stingray's floating island, Cap picked it up an threw it to Thor to help him, he didn't want it for himself and whoever lifted the hammer had the power of Thor.

You're close! It was Thor #390.

Thank you!

I can't believe I actually got the issue number right even though I said the wrong title, I don't feel as insane right now, sometimes I think I've imagined things like this.

At this point, it would be easier to put out a press release announcing characters who won't be played by Arnold Cabbagepatch.

I am overjoyed that Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange. I don't really know anything about Jessica Jones, but I like Ritter a lot, so it'll be cool to see her get her own show.

I'm really excited about CumberStrange. I'm a big fan of of Cumerbatch, so I'm glad to see him going to the MCU.
My only familiarity with Krysten Ritter is Don't Trust the B____ in Apartment 23, but she was good in that so I trust she'll good in Jessica Jones. I don't know anything about Jessica Jones though.

I have the same feelings for Cumberbatch that I had for Robert Downey Jr. when I heard he was casted to be Iron Man, I only saw a few of their movies at the time and didn't have any real opinion of their work, but my low expectations with Downey paid off as he is now my definitive Iron Man. I probably wont be disappointed but we'll see what CumberStrange has to offer.
