Adam Warlock was still in his cocoon in the Thor 2 post-credits scene of you want something that clearly places this movie after.

If that indeed was Warlock's cocoon.

Do y'all suppose that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will begin with Groot fully regenerated and active or with the Guardians surprised by Groot's completed regeneration?

    Confirmed by the director.

It was confirmed earlier than that but that was the first article Google turned up.

Thanks, I hope this means that Warlock might play a part in a either a future GOTG movie or the battle against Thanos as he did in The Infinity Gauntlet.

Interesting that Warlock's another character who first showed up in Fantastic Four like the Inhumans and Ronan.

Maybe if the new film flops they'll give FF back to Marvel.

Even if it weren't (although it is), the fact that it hatched (or whatever it is cocoons do) shows this is after Thor 2.

Why is there any thought that Guardians of the Galaxy takes place before Thor: The Dark World? It seems obvious to me that the release order and chronological order of MCU films is more or less the same.

Well, the time-line in phase one had a little bit of inter-connectivity (The final battle at the Expo in "Iron Man 2", the final battle in Harlem in "The Incredible Hulk" and the events of "Thor" all happeneing within days of each other), maybe people are expecting something similar here?

Anyway, I can't find the exact quote, but Kevin Feige has said that all of the phase 2 movies take place in the order that they drop.

Hulk and Iron Man 2 are actually in reverse order, if I'm not mistaken.

^True, Tony wasn't considered a consultant until the end of Iron Man 2 though that scene in the bar with Ross (and Banner in the cottage) could have taken place after Iron Man 2 while the movie itself took place before.

Also, Iron Man 2 and Thor take place simultaneously with IM2 starting first.

The meeting between Stark and Fury took place in between Hulk's battles at Culver University and in Harlem.

The Incredible Hulk spans the most amount of time (present-day). It starts before Iron Man 2 and ends after all the other Phase One movies, except for The First Avenger's final scene when Cap wakes up in New York.

Thor had to happen after IM2, we see Coulson leaving for New Mexico before Stark had created his new element.

That after the credits scene in Iron Man 2 shouldn't have been too long after Coulson and Stark shook hands. It doesn't take that long to drive from Malibu to New Mexico. After Coulson leaves, Stark finishes the new element, flies to the eastern seaboard to defeat the drones and Whiplash, and then meets up with Fury the next day, which is followed by Stark and Rhodey being honored in DC. Unless Coulson took his time, there has to be some overlap.

Coulson's car had New Mexico license plates on it so it's likely he flew there. But for that matter the night that Thor landed on earth might've the night of Tony's birthday party.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer established that Coulson did indeed drive to New Mexico. One of the MCU tie-in comics (I think it was Fury's Big Week, the lead-up to The Avengers) established that Coulson actually drove to a SHIELD facility in Roswell, got a team together, and then led them out to Puente Antiguo, where he came upon Thor's hammer.

Coulson drove at least 500 miles to Puente Antiguo (sp?). In "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer" he was seen driving past a road sign, that was itself in the middle of the desert, stating that the town was 473 miles away. Also, on the way, he foiled a gas station robbery.

New Mexico is a big state, to be fair. Although, I guess, it's not realistic to drive 500 miles straight while only in New Mexico (it's certainly possible, though, from corner to corner, it just wouldn't make any sense).
