And Kevin Youkilis finally snapped tonight...

Fuck thats the most emotion I've seen out of this team in two fucking months...

Sorry to piss you off, TerriO, but I'm going to have to disagree with you. I freaking LOVE the new Yankee Stadium. It's my favorite ballpark - heck, might be my favorite building of any kind - that I've ever been to or that I ever WILL be to. I love everything about the place: the food, the extra wide concourses that more than two people can walk down side-by-side, the team, the museum, Monument Park, the Bleachers, everything. As far as I'm concerned, they did everything right when they designed that sucker. I cannot imagine any team topping this. The first time I visited the new stadium was literally a life-changing experience for me. So was sitting with the Bleacher Creatures in Section 203. I love this place.

That being said, of course I loved the old stadium too. (Two old stadiums, really, since the Yankee Stadium that emerged post-70's-renovation was not the same stadium as the original one; they pretty much gutted the place completely when they rebuilt it) I'm not saying I'm glad the old building's gone. I miss it. I had a lot of good memories there. It does kinda hurt to see the gradual demolition of the place. But I choose to enjoy the new one, 'cuz I can't stop the old one from going away. It's done. Out of our hands. I'm sure the debates will rage for years over whether the old stadium needed to be replaced. I choose to stay out of that.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who doesn't live in Massachusetts or New York loathes both the Yankees and the Red Sox. ;)

Incorrect. I live in Omaha, Nebraska, yet I'm a Yankees (and Mets) fan.

^Methinks you didn't see the ";)".

I take everything seriously, you know that.

And while I'm at it: This may not mean anything to those who are predisposed to hate the Yankees and/or the new stadium, but the site where the old one stood will be preserved. Three different baseball fields (one little-league, one softball, one tournament; this last one will be in roughly the same place as Yankee Stadium II's field was) will arise there. And there's talk of Gate 2 being preserved from the old stadium. So it's not like the old site will have condos or office buildings on it. I consider the new fields a worthy use of the site, and a fitting tribute.

And where does it's use stop? What would stop people from stopping the game after every single close call on an out?

No one would no longer trust the umps to make the judgement. Every single call would get questioned. It would be ridiculous.

What comes next? They project a holographic strikezone and put a sensor on the baseball and decided strikes and balls that way?

Bad calls happen, they're part of the game. Everyone has and will get screwed over by one. It's the game.

Absolutely correct. And besides, without the umps there screaming "striiiiiiiiiiiiiike" the game wouldn't be nearly as fun.

They're pickin' up the pitchers and puttin' em in the pen
And all she wants to do is dance, dance
Red Sox been Red Sox since I don't know when
And all she wants to do is dance
Chowdahead cocktail, the local drink
And all she wants to do is dance, dance
Mix it up right in the Fenway sink
And all she wants to do is dance

Crazy Youkilis walkin' round with blood in his eyes
And all she wants to do is dance
Wild-eyed bat waver who ain't afraid to die
And all she wants to do is dance - and make romance
She can't feel the heat comin' off Landsdowne Street
She wants to party (ooh), she wants to get down (ooh)
And all she wants to do is, all she wants to do is dance

Well the team bugged the men's room in the Fenway Park lounge
And all she wants to do is dance, dance
To keep StubHub from sellin' all the tickets they could scrounge
And all she wants to do is dance
But that don't keep the scalpers from makin' a buck or two
And all she wants to do is dance, dance
They still can sell the tourists all the seats that they can do
And all she wants to do is - all she wants to do is dance, and make romance
She can't feel the heat comin' off Landsdowne Street
She wants to party (ooh), she wants to get down (ooh)
And all she wants to do is, all she wants to do is dance

Well we barely made the Green Line for the last train out
As we got into the subway I could hear the people shout
They said "Don't come back here Yankees!" But if I ever do,
I'll bring more money
'Cause all she wants to do is dance, and make romance
She can't feel the heat comin' off Landsdowne Street
She wants to party (ooh), she wants to get down (ooh)
And all she wants to do is, all she wants to do is dance

:D

Geez, it was like a cage fighting match or something.

If Porcello was instructed to hit Youk intentionally (and judging from how off his pitch was and how he brushed back V-Mart in the previous at-bat), the Tigers must be regretting that decision now. Lowell just feasted on their pitching tonight coming off the bench.

Tazawa had great stuff today. Unfortunate inside pitch to Cabrera, but I think that was more a case of the jitters than intent.

Judging from the right field dimensions, i thought the new Stadium was doubling as the little league field? ;)

No matter how much you love the new stadium, pretty sure they are going to have to go back and fix that after the season, it's an embarassing launching pad. Whether or not anyone wants to believe the "oops, we accidently moved the short right field porch from the old stadium 10 feet closer, which coincidently plays really well to our hit charts" defense, they're going to have to move it back eventually, if only to avoid any more swinging bunt homeruns!

:guffaw:Too funny.

Does that mean Citi Field will serve as an airplane hangar for LaGuardia Airport in the offseason, given its ample size?

Ah, but I lived in Boston for 10 years, and have lived in NYC for just under 9 years.

American League can kiss my pale Irish arse these days. :p

^Always glad to have more Yankees/Red Sox haters around. ;)

Porcello and Youkilis both got 5 game suspensions for yesterday's fight. All things considered thats not too bad for either team. I'm just hoping the Tigers can get one game in Boston in this series, but going up against Beckett tonight isn't going to help.

I'm glad the Giants pulled out a game, but those umpires sucked so much in this series. It's really a shame Umpires aren't held more accountable and actually come out and say they were wrong or something. It's still a bad call, but it seems like Umpires get more of a free pass than officials in the NFL, or NBA.

Stupid asshole throws a beer on Shane Victorino at the Phils/Cubs game tonight...

I hope the commentators were correct in suspecting that this guy will be banned from Wrigley for life.

Well, Beckett had his game face on. He's definitely making a viable case for the Cy Young this year.

My god that was an emotionally charged game, probably the most tense game I've ever seen. Being in that crowd must have been intense! On top of the unavoidable tension and rivalry between the teams (it's been a while since those two have cleared the benches at each other) I've never seen so many horrible calls in one game, or even an entire series like this. The sheer obviousness of how the plays should have been called in contrast to how they were called was ridiculous.

The bad calls got to the point where they completely changed the way the game turned out: had the Dodgers runner been correctly called out at first base, the pop fly to the outfield would have been out number three, and a game ending routine play, giving Lincecum the win. But no...that idiot umpire Darling gets yet another call wrong, keeping the inning alive which allows the Dodgers to tie the game, giving poor Lincecum a no decision.

What really drives home how ridiculously bad this team of umpires was is this: The Dodgers second baseman barely, if at all, tags a runner with his glove...while holding the ball in his other hand...and an umpire calls that an OUT. :wtf: Sure, it was overruled, but come on...this is the Major Leagues.
