"MadUniverse" Romulan Battlecruiser

The only thing that makes the engineer in me go "hmmm" when looking at this, really, is the neck.

If this thing had a bifurcated, or even a "tripod" neck, I think it would appeal to me quite a bit more. I like the STYLE of the neck you've done, mind you... but I'm not the world's biggest fan of cantilevered structures like that, and if you have the opportunity to do it differently, I'd do so if I were in your shoes.

What I'm imagining is a pair of "subnecks" going back from the top edge of the "head," at, say, about 10 degrees, until they intersect with the top "half-wing," and another "subneck" going directly aft from the center bottom of the head until it intersects with the lower "half-wing."

FYI, I know, I now, MJ's Klingon battlecruiser had a cantilevered neck... the 1701 has several cantilevered components... so this isn't atypical in Treknology. I'm just sayin...

I know what you mean... I had tried a couple of necks that did just what you suggest, and they all looked kind of weird. I even had one that went all the way through, and ended being part of the back fin... even it was weird, from a few angles. That's why I settled on this one. That, along with the fact I want it to look kind of like a Klingon ship...

We'll just go with the fact that they are very afraid of their fusion reactors and stolen nacelles blowing up, so they want to be able to separate as quick as possible. :)

OK, I'm done for today. Here's a few more images...

And one showing this ship in relation to some of my others...

I think I can get it finished, and textured tomorrow. :)

Coincidentally, this would also make a good Prime Universe TMP-era Warbird.

It would. You know, I always felt that the Warbids of TNG were the end result of generations of Romulanized Klingon technology. This design makes a good starting place for that.

Edit: It also looks vaguely Cylon, but in a good way.

I must say that I absolutely love how this design is coming together, that last shot really sells it for me :techman:

Btw, what are the yellow pods mounted on the interior of the wings?

Thanks. :)

Those yellow parts will eventually be the weapons pods. I'm thinking it will have two type of disruptors... big ones, that take a while to recharge, and small ones, that are kind of weak, but can fire rapidly. No torpedoes, or plasma weapons on this one....

Righto, I get it. Maybe keeping the weapon pods on the wings, with all the 'volitile' systems, could tie into the idea you've put out for the Romulans being unsure of how safe their own technology is?

yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, if I reversed engineered half of my equipment, and had to make it work with my own stuff, I'd be pretty nervous. :)

Alright, I think the modeling is done! Here's what I've got...

I'm going to start texturing, now. I think I'm going to go with a shade of green, and do highlights with a coppery/goldish color. I think it'll turn out ok. :)

I hate to say it after you've done so much work, but I really hate the front head part. I mean, it looks fine on its own, but I think it's way too wide/bulky compared with how skinny the neck is.

I will say that I really like the current color scheme. Sure, green would be fine and Romulan, but I think the gray looks really good, especially with the green lights.
