"MadUniverse" Romulan Battlecruiser

I have some tribal art i drew in my photobucket acount in the last pages of it :)

Some nice stuff in there too. Looks like Mad Man is doing one, I'm trying to do one too, why don't you do a "tribalized" version of the romulan crest and we'll compare them. I already know mine will look horrid, but the concept intrigued me enough to try anyway.
Cool stuff there KaiserNathan. :)

OK... so, it's not necessarily tribal, but it is something like that. Now, I want to admit right away that this is totally outside my normal style.....

Better? Worse?

Awesome :) :techman:

and nahh i rarely have time for drawing anymore :(

and thanks for liking what you saw there :)

OK, some color ones! I need help deciding which one is good, so I can tweak it some more.

I'm partial to the Blue one, and the Orange one. Not crazy about the green one. :)

ooo, I like the fancy one. As for the other three... well they all look good.

Here's the one I did. If I had something better then MS Paint I'd clean it up a bit more, but I'm afraid thats about all I can do with it. I kind of like it, strikes me as something that may have come about after planet fall. Although infinitely better then what I got skill for.

Thanks. :)

I think yours works as an even more primitive one, like you said, after they just got to Romulus, and their tech regressed a bit. If you look at it long enough, his wings start to look like a cape. :)

Well, like I said, I would love to clean it up but don't have the right software, nor do I have the money for said software. So if you want to use it and maybe make it look better, you have my permission.

Cool.

You know about the GIMP, right? Its the free Open Source alternative to Photoshop. It can do 90% of what Photoshop does....

Reminds me of Native american art :) :techman:

OK, I'm trying to nail down a color scheme. Here's with the Dark Green and Copper...

RomBC_WIP_028.jpg

I don't know if I like it. Any other suggestions?

Hmmm, I can see why you're not sure, especially the copper. The problem with being certain though is that it contrasts quite badly with the offwhite of the non-painted areas, so it might be colouring my perception of how the colours are coming out.

In any case, maybe less emphasis on the copper? Like reducing the thickness of the bands along the wingspan?

I don't think I like the copper at all. The large panels of it kind of makes this look like a toy.

When you said green and copper before I kind of figured the copper would be more of an accent color. It's way too prominent here.

Looks like a brick wall. needs to be more monotone and less regular in pattern. Maybe keep an overal green-isn mat for flat surfaces and use a metallic copper for details like the fins?

Yep, I agree with everybody. :) It'll be greygreen on darker green, with Copper colored detail parts. I was going to do Maroon and Green, but that's too much like a Klingon ship...

Righto, I get it. Maybe keeping the weapon pods on the wings, with all the 'volitile' systems, could tie into the idea you've put out for the Romulans being unsure of how safe their own technology is?

Alternatively, you could argue the Romulans know exactly how unsafe their tech is. Unfortunately, it's all they've got so they make allowances. That plays into the early fandom justifications for the D-7 design (the servitors and lower classes are in the back near the "unsafe at any speed" warp reactors while the elites are in the neck and forward section).

Yeah, I think I like that better. :) They KNOW it might blow up, and want to be away from it. :)
