Luke Skywalker's Character Problem in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Solo gross WW:
$392,924,807

it costs over $250 million to make. And also let's not forget the P$ A and marketing costs, and the theaters TAKE a THIRD off the top. Stop. There is no way that Solo did not lose money for the studio. BTW I love the movie

I said the last film lost money adn you said it didn't

No. What I said, if you bothered to pay attention was that there are many reasons why it failed. I even agreed that the divisiveness of The Last Jedi plays a part. BUT, I also suggested that it was a perfect storm of fuckedupedness that led to the failure of Solo at the box office -- Behind the scenes drama, poor reviews, not really needing a Han Solo origin story, the depressing nature of the previous anthology film, recasting a young Han Solo and yes, even the divisiveness of The Last Jedi. They all played a part.

my point is that it doens't matter. There Is no way to ensure TLJ's impact on Solo, but if people liked TLJ than solo likely would have done better.. albeit it's not the only factor.

My point is that people left SW after TLJ adn are not coming back.. we might have to wait to see how much damage TLJ did to the franchise

also I was responding to Professor Zoom who seemed to deny Solo lost money not you

You cannot say that for certain. What you might be missing is the fact that many fanboys like to whine. They’ll be back. They have to be. To have their voices. And you don’t know what the numbers truly are. I’ve suggested this before and I’ll suggest it again: People who watch YouTube videos about Star Wars are not the broad base of Star Wars fans. Even if there are a hundred thousand of them in the entire world that is barely a drop in the bucket that is the ticket sales from TLJ. Let’s assume $12 a ticket. That’s $1.2 million. Nothing in comparison to what the movie actually made.

This Fandom Menace movement is not as significant as it seems to be. And $5 says all of the YouTubers who “hate” Disney Star Wars so much will be there opening night. That's money in Disney's pocket, no matter how much they claim to loathe Disney Star Wars, they are still paying into the coffers. Even moreso, they're giving it attention. They suggest they are apathetic towards it. Yet they post videos about it. Constantly. There are many things that I'm apathetic towards. You know what I do about them? I ignore them. Because that's a part of what makes apathy apathy. I've said it before and I'll say it again: This is an act. The sequel trilogy might not be their favorite thing (news alert: its not mine either) but they are suggesting they "hate" it just to get attention. To get clicks. Because they would rather make fucking YouTube videos than actually get a real job.

Sure.. I hoenstly don't know it could make a billion in its sleep.. or it could fall short of a billion. I honestly don't know. But I think the franchise was damaged

No one knows. And we won't know until the end of the year really how it is. But I will say I believe the film will do well. I do not believe it will do as well as TLJ but far better than Solo. Looking at the box office of all of the Star Wars films in the Disney era shows that more tickets are sold for the saga films than the anthology films. Now, sure that gives me a lot of ground there but it doesn't really matter because you and others like you will see it as a failure if it makes $1 less than TLJ or even $1 more. You've made up your mind. That's your choice, sure, but I'm far more willing to wait and see what happens.

I actually though Solo was a fine movie.. I agree it was not necessary .. and no one asked for it as well as all the reasons it failed.. but I enjoyed it.. especially seeing Chewie in action because in the sequel;s he is just an uber driver

Does the damage matter? Seriously, no one has answered the question of why people care so much about whether Star Wars succeeds or fails enough to constantly predict doom and gloom. If people hate Disney so much than expecting it to fail only adds fuel to the fire. It's reaching absurd levels.

Regardless, Disney will do what it does. And I'll be watching the upcoming films. Such tragedy.

It was a fun plot (I love a good heist) but my biggest issue is the small universe syndrome where you have Han meeting Chewie and Lando, getting his blaster, and the Falcon, learning how his ship got such an amazing hyperdrive and "speak(s) a peculiar dialect," and the origin of one of his most famous exchanges ("I love/hate you." "I know.") and does his infamous attempt at the Kessel Run in a such a brief period of time.

Its a similar complaint that I have with Rogue One with all of the kewl callbacks to previous entries. And I know that TFA is considered to have the same issue. I thought for the most part, it was a bit more organic there. But that might just be me.
