Lucifer - Season 1

I didn't care for this episode much; it leaned too heavily into the "Lucifer's sexual antics and comically self-centered behavior" stuff which has kind of worn out its welcome by now, and had too little of the supernatural-politics arc that's the more engaging part of the premise. We got a lot of stuff with Chloe's arc, though. It's surprising that they wrapped up the murder of the week 3/4 of the way through the episode and then spent the rest on arc. Not that the Palmetto/Malcolm thing has really grabbed me. I could tell halfway through the episode that Dan would turn out to be the the shooter. The more Chloe began to warm up to him romantically again, the more inevitable it became that he'd be "shockingly" revealed to be a villain. Although I didn't peg that Malcolm would turn out to be even worse.

I could tell at episode 2 that Dan was going to be implicated in something serious. The format of the cop story is nothing if not predictable. I much preferred this ep because Lucifer is beginning to give us a glimpse how angry and desperate he is. His smile is creepy enough but when he stops smiling, as he did for a lot if this ep, he looks very dangerous. Great acting.

It's supposed to be a 13-episode season, so there are still 5 episodes to go. So at least a few more episodes for the Malcolm/Dan/Palmetto stuff, and surely a few focusing on Lucifer and his folks.

This show seems almost certain to be renewed for season 2, as it's put up pretty good ratings all season long, but I'm not sure how much they could drag Lucifer's current storyline out into a second season. That'd really be dragging things out. As speculated by others above, they'd have to change things up by having Chloe help Lucifer hunt down escapees from Hell or something along those lines.

If the show ends up being a cute police procedural with the devil, I'll be really disappointed. Right now, I'm liking the show enough to keep up with it every week. I'm not sure what this show needs, but it's something other than the crime of the week. The show does do a good job of making the characters interesting, so for now I'll keep watching weekly.

I wonder if there's an appearance by Dad in our future? That would rock. LOL

Though, I would have expected his hand to have been mangled when he punched that wall in the doctor's office. Whether that means he is still invulnerable or it's a continuity gaffe remains to be seen.
I've seen a lot of shows where normal people do stuff like that without being hurt, so I don't know if that's evidence of anything.
Even though I am enjoying the cases of the week, I am a little disappointed how little supernatural stuff there is in the show. I was really hoping stuff with the wings was going to be the beginning of the shift towards more of that stuff, but now we appear to be back to fairly mundane cases.

They're wasting a lot of ideas like that for slice of life police procedural stuff, I don't like that kind of show. Maybe it'll kick off more soon.

Stay far away from Second Chance then (Not that you have to worry about it. It'll be canceled after 11 episodes). A brother and sister have the technology to literally raise someone from the dead (provided they have the 1 in a million DNA requirements) and his blood can be used to cure a rare form of cancer the sister has. So what kind of a show is it? A police procedural!

Want to like this show so much, but it seems like its not sure what type of show it is. Is this a supernatural show or police procedural? I need more of the supernatural elements. I need a big bad, i need Satan to kick it up a notch as he pails in comparison to Lucifer on Supernatural.
They really need more story arc. Maybe have demons escape from hell and one of them take over Dan and he becomes like the big bad and the world starts to go to shit as all of these murders and supernatural type deaths occurring.
Right now its too safe and Vanilla.

I feel the show balances a lot of different directions well- it started off as a police procedural but gradually introduced more elements to where the police aspect is minor at times. The characters are changing also- moving out of their initial cliches and growing in odd ways. Amenadiel is beginning to show some 'humanity', Mazi is not acting the same way she did at the beginning to the point Lucifer has cut her off from him, Linda the therapist has chosen to resist her urges and treat Lucifer more professionally and if she does believe he is the devil now he has pretty much told her the new doctor next door is an angel- I wonder what their next conversation is going to be like?

It is a fun show to watch and they have enough threads now they can weave the story in a lot of different directions.

New episode tonight:
A Priest Walks into a Bar:
A priest who suspects a drug operation has been set up at a local youth center seeks Lucifer's help. Meanwhile, Malcolm finds a way to keep tabs on Dan.

I'm enjoying the idea of Lucifer and Chloe as real friends. I hope the writers don't force the two characters into a romantic relationship.

Me, too. They make great bffs. Amanendiel is going off the deep end, here. What part of that plane does he think will work for dear old dad? However, thinking back to one of his first conversations with Lucifer, Lucifer asked him if he was worried dad might chose him to take over the throne. What if that really is the plan? Interesting artwork over Chloe's fireplace, by the way, Venus being the morning star and why Wonder Woman has those stars on her costume originally from Marston. That whole pentagonal cycle of Venus thing.

Last episode was interesting- Lucifer can be burned (but it happened while carrying Chloe).
Detective Douche may not be as bad as implied- he shot Malcolm to prevent Chloe from being killed. He should not have lost that fight with a handcuffed Malcolm in my opinion- Malcolm is a skinny little guy who should still be recovering from hospitalization.

I am kinda hoping when Malcolm attempts to shoot Lucifer the bullets do not work- Amanendiel would need to come up with a way to have Chloe preform the deed.

Malcolm may not be fully human anymore. He was dragged out of hell and given new life. We don't yet know if there are any consequences to that rebirth.

I remember Lucifer giving him a very odd look when they passed by each other, like there was something different about him...

Weird theory: When Lucifer resisted the drunk Chloe's sexual advances and didn't understand why, it was as if he instinctively sensed that she wasn't someone he should be sleeping with. Could it be that they're related in some way? I doubt she's his half-sister, since that would pretty much make her the second coming of Jesus, and Penelope doesn't seem the virginal type. And I doubt she's his daughter, since he probably would've remembered sleeping with Penelope in her B-movie sex-idol days. (He's probably forgotten plenty of people he's slept with, but he'd probably remember a trashy movie star.) But could she be half-angelic, and thus perhaps his niece or cousin once removed? I think the term for a human-angel hybrid would be a nephil (singular of nephilim). Although the nephilim were giants in the Bible.

Also: I've remarked before that Chloe is an epithet of the Greek goddess Demeter. I hadn't read too much into it, but her mother's name is Penelope, which is the name of Odysseus's wife. Still not sure if that means anything, though. Had it been Persephone, it would've been a little more on the nose. (I think Trixie's full name is Beatrice, which is from Dante's Divine Comedy.)

Wow, the theory that Chloe is half angel! That's new! Just how many people do you have on ignore not to have seen that already mentioned several times in this thread?
