Lower Expectations, says Discovery Writer.

I'm sure the show will be fine. Will it be for me? That is an entirely different question. But, no matter what they do, it'll never take away "my" Star Trek.

So, sit back and enjoy the ride, or don't. Just hope no one makes a career out of bashing the show.

tbh the thread title is pretty disingenuous, "lower expectations" is not at all what he said and it's pretty clear the OP has either twisted his words deliberatley or rehashed such a misinterpretation elsewhere without checking the quote.

In either case this is exactly the kind of behaviour that means anyone daring to atrempt anything new within the ST universe simply doesn't stand a chance. They announce the show and people are instantly attacking it and it's creators, with absolutely no posssibility of allowing them the chance to just maybe actually do anything well or have anything worthwhile to offer.

Making trek must be the most soul destroying job in the world

It's the Internet...

See above.

Also, as an aside, one the things that Hollywood writers learn is that you need a thick skin to deal with the criticism. Also, never read the comments.

I was kind of prepared to buy into what Meyer was saying until the announcement of the delay.
The reason stated for that has been to ensure a very high quality finished product.

They can't have it both ways though. We're either getting some earth shattering show with superb stories, scripts, acting and SFX, that has been lovingly crafted for as long as has been needed, or we need to "lower expectations"

Which one is it to be?
I'm not sure how one is even remotely contradictory toward with the other. Please read all the other posts in this thread.

Yet again, he never said anything about lowering expectations. The OP did that.

I agree with him but just to set the record straight, he did say that. In response to the fan that shouted "Don't screw it up." :
Although Meyer did have one piece of advice for a fan looking for assurance that the show would be everything they hoped it would be: “Lower your expectations.”
And again later on...
He continued, a bit later, It is a symbiotic relationship and all I’m suggesting is that if you go with open minds and open hearts, you may be rewarded. Whereas if you go with a set of impossible to realize expectations, which even you cannot specifically define, then we’re bound to fail. And so I’m saying: Get loose.

My only complaint is this: prequels are normally very difficult to pull off. Why would you want to go BACK in time on a show about advanced scientific exploration? I think that true fans, more than anything, want to see the post-Dominion War Federation and Alpha Quadrant. They want to see space stations, like DS9, and ships they recognize - as well as updated technology and effects bc it's later in the timeline. It never works when the focus ship is more advanced than the ones that follow it. Just one of the many reasons why Enterprise was such a colossal flop.
