Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

I find it funny that there are some fans hating on LD which is the brain child of someone who clearly is highly knowledgeable and passionate about Star Trek.

Kinda throws water on the fire that is the whole 'We need/want trek that is produced by actual fans of the franchise who will respect gene's vision' argument.

Not only that, but as I originally suggested prior to the release, it's basically the exact inverse of DIS/PIC in terms of story structure, tone, adherence to past style, etc.

As far as I can see, some people basically want more Berman Trek (or within-canon Orville) and nothing else.

Yeah... that’s what DVD’s and BRD’s are for. Onward! :D

I love this show! I get most of the references, it's hilarious, and I love its upbeat incredible energy. I was a huge Gravity Falls fan and it reminds me of that more than Rick and Morty. Honestly, for the first episode, I assumed that Boimler was actually voiced by Jason Ritter.

As for the hate? Well, at this point I'm resigned to the fact that Trekkies will hate anything new until at least 15 years have passed and then it's a sacred cow.

I admit one thing irritates the hell out of me whenever I go to places to discuss this show. "I wanted a serious Young Justice or Justice League-esque adventure show, not a comedy!"

I feel like that's a fake complaint.

"This is not a restaurant. It's a buffet. Don't watch it then. Don't complain about the fact you don't get to tailor make your order."

Best comics I ever read was the late-80's, post-Legends Justice League by Giffen, DeMatteis and Maguire/Hughes. Deft mix of comedy and danger. Really fun stuff. What I'm hoping Lower Decks grows into.

I apologize if the discussion has been had, but what is Mariner's age? I had her pegged as early to mid 20s, however she has served on 5 Federation star ships and has done black ops with the Klingon, so I guess she is more 30ish?

"About the same age" as Boimler is all we know. Boimler graduated in 2379, making him (probably) about 23, unless he entered the Academy late.
