Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

I was surprised to see that as well. He also plays Hughie Campbell in The Boys - another show I'm looking forward to returning soon.

Was wondering that too. I think he changes it in LDS to sound more high-pitched and whiny to match the character archetype. He's nowhere near that whiny in Boys. Butcher would bitch-slap him in every scene if he sounded like that for too long.

Having just watched "Twisted Toons" and seeing those voice actors adjust their voices for different characters reading a script I'd say that a small adjustment to "more whiny" is an easy thing to do. :D

I have noticed something, Lower Decks is the only show so far with a solo creator/showrunner. I do wonder if that has something to do with how crisp it feels right out of the gate, a single vision for what the show is going to be.

So what do people think of Boimler's purple hair?
Is it just an art style thing and we're meant to see it as black/dark brown? Does he dye it or does he have some alien ancestry?

Boimler is an odd last name, so it wouldn't surprise me if his grandfather turned out to be a Catullan or something.

I take it as more of an artistic style. Because purple doesn't exist in nature. ;)

What's ler?

My grandmother's maiden name was "Baumgardner" which I believe is tree gardener (roughly) but I never learned much German, despite my family history.
I'm no etymologist, but the suffix “–ler” has no meaning in and of itself, but in this case it's just a way to make a person out of the preceding noun. It's similar to what happens in English words like “handler”, “whistler” or “footballer”. Although all of those words have a root word that ends in “–l” or “–le”, whereas “Baum” doesn't. I don't know, German is weird that way.

“Gardener” is actually “Gärtner” in German, so I guess “Baumgardner” is already an anglicized version of the original German word.

He dyes it.

Sometimes I put red dye in my hair. Since it's black, it barely shows up, so I use it to change the hue a little. But if I could really do it, I'd give purple a try.
