I wonder if Picard will feature these 2380 uniforms in flashback scenes (and live action). I get that the gray ones aren't colorful enough, and every Star Trek series has to have its own uniform for some reason.

Fans will be creating these suits soon enough. Someone's probably starting on it now.

Rutherford doesn't have a first name (at least, he's not been given one), and has some possibly cybernetic implants - could he be a cyborg like Airiam on DSC only more fleshy? Or a former Borg drone who only knows the ship he was from (The USS Rutherford)?

Having watched the SDCC panel finally, and not just relying on second-hand sources, I can safely theorize that Lt. Shaxs is the Chief Engineer, not Security Chief. Not only does it match with Rutherford, but at the panel it was said (paraphrased) "Shaxs is more likely to dump the warp core."

Suggesting to dump the warp core is a request that fits an engineer more than a Security Chief. Maybe he's not a particularly good engineer, and Rutherford has to pick up the slack (although they specifically said that Rutherford won't be able to solve the problems every episode).

Also, the panel explicitly referred to T'ana as a Caitian, and said that other races from The Animated Series would return.

They did say that there will be alot of appearances and connections, bringing up that Voyager has returned (which implies that it or its crew will show up). As an animated comedy, almost parody of Star Trek, I hope they take the opportunity to invite everyone and anyone, to make fun appearances and easter eggs every episode.

Judging from the TNG Season 8 tweets, and what was said in the panel, there will probably be alot of A Plot/B Plot reversals, a slate of "Zeppo" episodes, where our main cast of 4 ensigns are dealing with some inane or trivial matter, with hints of some grand epic tale being handled by their bosses.

Okay, I've read statements comparing its visual style to both "Rick and Morty" and "Bob's Burgers". Really?! "Bob's Burgers"?! If we're gonna' play the "it looks like..." game, then I think Olan Rogers' "Final Space" would be the better match. Speaking of which, I bet those who are unaware (or at the most barely aware) of the 1973 Filmation series will look upon Dr. T'Ana and think, "Hey, they're just 'aping' the Ventrexians from 'Final Space'." The creative team could have reduced (though, obviously, not totally eliminate) such false assumptions if they had given T'Ana digitigrade feet. I mean, this is an animated production; it's not like there would be technical issues to depict a toe standing posture. It would help to differentiate them from "Final Space's" resident felinoid species. (BTW, I wonder when or even if we'll finally see a female Ventrexian?)

Still, I'm stunned that after 44 years we'll finally see a Caitian who is at least a recurring secondary character with dialogue. I wonder if we'll have any flashbacks that will reveal her in her prime?
