Lost from the beginning (NO SPOILERS)

It sure was.
It's been a few days, but another three episodes are in the pipe:
Numbers:
4 8 15 16 23 42
I have the feeling I should remember those numbers.
Hurley won the lottery. Good for him....or is it? Bad stuff starts happening around him. Could he be cursed. BTW, since when is Korean television in the habit of showing American lottery winners? On the island, Hurley goes nuts when he sees the number written in Danielle's notes. Thus begins a trek in to the jungle under the guise of a quest for a battery. Jack, Sayid and Charlie tag along. The rope bridge is a horrible, horrible cliche that should never ever be used in anything ever again, period. Gee, do you think it's gonna break?
Finally, Hurley find Danielle, and learns that the numbers are what brought her to the island in the first place. Oh, and they're carved into the hatch, too. Huzzawha?
Deus Ex Machina:
Locke is a guy that just couldn't catch a break before the island. I saw his father's true colors long before he did. That could just be the fact that I'm the skeptical viewer, though. Feel sad for him though, and can see the things that led him to be a wreck later in life.
On the island, Locke has a freaky-ass dream of a plane crashing, and Boone covered in blood acting like a cylon hybrid. Also, they have really been digging at that hatch. Looks like there's a whole building underneath there. When Locke and Boone try to track down the plane, Locke begins to lose the use of his legs again. A test of faith? Locke seems to think so. There's also the fact that he is seemingly unable to feel pain in them. Hmmmm. The plane ends up being heroin-filled jesus dolls (nobody tell Charlie) but Boone finds the radio and possibly gets a transmission out before the plane falls off the cliff with him in it. He doesn't look too good, there...... Locke runs off in anger/sorrow, and then a light goes on underneath the hatch. Oooooooooooh.
The subplot with Sawyer is good for a few laughs. It's nice to see his ego get taken down a few pegs, and his new glasses are hardly stylish.
Do No Harm:
Jack was married? Wonder what happened there. He certainly seemed to be having second thoughts right up to the end. Classic cold feet, or actually legitimate doubt? Christian being a voice of reason was certainly a change.
Boone's in a pretty bad state, and things are looking grim. After many attempts, Jack is finally forced to let go, and Boone bites it. Can't say it really moved me. I haven't been terribly enamored with Boone. He was Shannon's little cheerleader the first half of the season, and a dick the second. He was easily the most expendable character on the show (Shannon fulfills a "hot chick" quota, otherwise she would be just as useless.) Sad that my biggest thought was for Sayid and having to deal with such a big blow to his new girlfriend this early in the relationship. Jack gets pissed (the flashbacks have shown he has trouble letting go) and decides to blame Locke. Showdown time, eh?
The show dives right in to another cliche though: The unqualified person has to deliver a baby. Claire has her baby, in what I'm sure is a very over-simplified birthing process. It's a boy!

Well, it probably took longer than they really showed us, but maybe not. My friend was only in labor for about a half hour before she gave birth to my godson. Babies want to be born. And assuming there are no crazy complications, I'm pretty sure delivering a baby is a fairly easy thing to do.
Well, it's sure as hell a lot cleaner than a birthing usually is.
The Greater Good:
Locke comes clean at Boone's funeral. It makes me wonder why he didn't in the first place. The reason people are suspicious of him is because he lied about what happened. Shannon sics Sayid on Locke which leads to some really great scenes. These two are the most awesome characters on the show. I thought Locke actually pulled off a pretty convincing bluff with the "four hatches on a plane" thing. Clearly, Sayid was not convinced, though. Shannon didn't like what she heard though and decided to take matters in to her own hands. It looks like she's just a lousy shot, because that gun went off long before Sayid tackled her, and Locke escaped with a graze.
The flashback.....sigh. Did we have to do this one? Did we have to bring terrorists into the equation? I know Sayid was secretly working against them, but it seems so stereotypical.
Born to Run:
I hate Kate. Simple as that. I hate her even more than Sawyer (who I'm actually starting to like.) She's always out to save her own hide and doesn't care who gets caught in the crossfire. I don't know what she did to make her dying mother scream for help like that, but I wouldn't put the worst of things past her. The explanation of the airplane disappoints me. Honestly, she's not worthy of owning that thing. She is directly responsible for his death. She's supposed to be the female lead? I can't stand her. I have no sympathy for her.
That's all I'm going to say about the flashbacks. On the island, someone poisons Michael. This leads to another whodunit. Is everyone on this island freaking Sherlock Holmes? What evidence led Locke to Walt as the arsonist? What led Jack to Sun as the poisoner? They maybe had hunches based on motivation, but there was never any solid enough evidence that we saw to actually go to the person and make an accusation. At least it finally comes out to everyone that Kate is the fugitive. No more of this sneaking around. And Walt has a vision, or something? Do not open the hatch. Well you know that they're going to do exactly that.

Welcome to the club! It is amazing how many people reach this opinion of Kate without outside influence. it really says something about the writing of Kate's character, here and in the future.
Exodus:
I watched all three parts in one sitting. It was just awesome! This write up is going to blur the parts together a bit, though.
So to start it all off Danielle makes her way to camp to tell everyone that "the others" are coming. Everybody panic! So they come up with a plan to hid everyone under the hatch. Just one problem: They can't open the hatch. So Jack, Kate, Hurley, Locke, and the annoying science teacher go off into the jungle to find explosives at the Black Rock, which is a beached ship. Not at all what I expected.
Meanwhile, the raft finally launches. I felt a little hopeful when that happened, but I should have known better.
Danielle heads on back to the beach after leading our intrepid heroes to the Black Rock, and then goes crazy(er) and steals Claire's baby. Sayid and Charlie set off after her. Sayid then leads Charlie right to the very last place on the island you would want to lead Charlie: the plane full of heroin. Sigh, I thought Charlie was turning it around. That's disappointing. Needless to say they catch up with Danielle and get the baby back. The black smoke that they thought was the Others coming has no others near it though. No foot prints in the sand either. Well, isn't that peculiar.
Back at Black Rock, the team finds some dynamite, and poor Artz goes boom, in a real holy crap moment, that was pretty darkly humorous, too. Hurley's line "You got some Artz on you," cracked me up. Jack has to play the hero again, and really wants to be the one to carry dynamite. Here's where I'm having a bit of a problem. Jack is an absolutely vital person on this island. He is the only doctor there. There is absolutely no reason that the rest of the survivors should be allowing him to take anywhere near the amount of risks that he does. Him carrying the dynamite should never even have been a consideration.
Oh well, on the way back, they run in to the robot/dinosaur sounding thing that is actually...smoke? Um....ok. Locke acts like an idiot and almost gets himself and everyone else killed. Though the conversation he has later with Jack is good. I'm a man of science, myself, though I'm inclined to agree with Locke in this case. Too many coincidences. Too many things that are unexplainable. There's something else at work here.
Oh, hey, I've totally forgotten about the flashbacks up to this point. They don't really give a whole lot of information, but are enjoyable enough. I really wish Sun had chewed out that bitch at the table behind them, though. Hurley's is good for some comic relief (though I really detest that airlines can legally charge a large person for two seats.) Jack flirts with the helicopter pilot from Avatar, Kate continues to suck, Sawyer gets deported, Shannon makes sure Sayid gets "randomly selected," and Locke is forced to endure severe indignity.
Nearing the end, now. The raft party gets some possible good news when a blip turns up on the radar. But hope soon turns to sorrow, when it turns out to be pirates/slavers who abduct Walt, shoot Sawyer, and torch the raft leaving the rest of them for dead. Damn. Back at the hatch, Hurley notices the numbers, but not in time to keep the hath from going boom. It's open, and they look inside. Cue cliffhanger.
I can't imagine what you guys must have gone through waiting all summer. Me, I just have to pop the next disc in. Which I'm going to do very shortly. Bring on Season 2!

^Absolutely agreed, but I forgot to write that in the review. The last five minutes or so are just breathtaking. Michael Giacchino deserved an Emmy or something.

Indeed. OdoWan, you pretty much summed up exactly why I hated Kate from the very beginning to fairly near the end. Ugh. You can't imagine the number of times I chanted for her death.
So begins season 2:
Man of Science, Man of Faith:
We start with a guy going through his morning routine, when there's an explosion. Oh, how about that? He's under the hatch!
Jack's flashbacks are kinda interesting this time. We see how he met Sara, which we already knew, but the thing that struck me was how cold Jack was. He let the other man die without a second thought, and was ready to dismiss Sarah as well. This is a far cry from the Jack we saw determined not to give up on Boone. He wasn't lying in his vows when he said that she had fixed him. She gave him some humanity. He also meets a guy named Desmond while running up and down some stadium stairs and they discuss the facts of life. Gee, he couldn't become important, could he?
On the island, there's some beating around the bush about the hatch. Jack does the best thing he can do to piss off the viewers. We want them to go down the hatch. We've been waiting for this revelation. Don't delay it, Jack. Thankfully, Locke and Kate won't have it. Down the hatch they go. Kate gets hit by a really bright light (the same light that Locke saw?) and disappears, so Locke dives in after her. Meanwhile, Shannon loses Vincent, and sees a really creepy vision of a sopping wet Walt. In any other show I would say she was losing it, but this is Lost. I'm sure she saw something.
Jack finally decides to follow suite with the other two and he goes down the hatch. He finds a really old computer, and just as he's about to press a button, Locke at gunpoint tells him not to. And the guy holding the gun is....oh hey, it's that guy that we just met during this very episode.
Adrift:
Ok, so we double back a bit here to Locke going down the hatch. Desmond catches him, and has him tie Kate up. She, of course, escape her bonds and finds herself in a pantry. So, this Dharma company, is it a Blue Sun type thing? They seem to make just about everything. Of course, after over a month on the island, I can't blame her for wanting some chocolate. Locke, meanwhile is forced to type some familiar numbers in to a computer which does.....something. I don't know. Desmond has clearly been here a while and is pretty off his rocker. Eventually, we catch back up to where we were.
Speaking of retreading old ground, I feel like I've already seen all the stuff in Michael's flashback. There's really no new information there.
Now, on to the raft. Well, things look bad, to say the least. Michael and Sawyer have managed to find some pieces to hang on to, but Walt is still kidnapped, and who knows what happened to Jin. Sawyer comes to the conclusion (that should have been obvious to me) that the boat was too small to be on the open seas, and would have to have been launched from the island. So Walt is the hands of the Others. Sawyer digging the bullet out of his shoulder was one of the most painful scenes on the show so far. Damn. That had to take some serious balls, and pain tolerance. I had to rewind and freeze to be sure, but the shark that was stalking them had a Dharma tattoo on it. That's interesting. I have no idea what it means right now, but it's a cool "blink and you'll miss it" mystery. Michael and Sawyer make up, and the current pulls them back to the island. Once ashore, who should they run across but Jin, who is tied up! He's terrified, and rightly so, the Others have just made their appearance.

I've watched a few more episodes, but I haven't felt motivated to make write ups. Mostly because of the lack of responses for several days. If there's not interest, then I think I'm just going to let this thread die. I'm still enjoying the show, and I'm going to keep watching. I just don't know if I should keep trying to do the writing.

I have been enjoying your episode descriptions quite a bit, it's like going through the Lost journey all over again. I don't think I've replied yet in the thread, but basically you are having many of the same impressions that I did when I first watched the show. Though I never really became a big Sawyer fan.
Oh,ok! I'll keep going, then! Now I just gotta go back and remember everything that happened these last episodes. These next few write ups may be a bit briefer, since it's been a few days since I've watched them.
Orientation:
We go over the same ground a third freaking time! But this time, we finally move on a bit. So, there's a computer that they someone has to type the number in to every 108 minutes (4+8+15+16+23+42=108) or the world will end. This place has been set up by the Dharma Inititive, which could be an evil, sadistic corporation. Desmond bails, which leaves the castaways to be the number-punchers.
The rafties get captured and thrown in the pit, where they meet Ana Lucia, the woman who was flirting with Jack in the airport....and oh she's actually one of the "others"
The flashback in this one is somewhat less interesting than Locke's previous ones. He gets some professional help, he gets some from Katey Sagal, and is possibly able to move on. Not as compelling as the "OMG! He's a cripple" and kidney theft moments, though.
Everybody Hates Hugo:
The inevitable question of what to do with the food is brought up, and Hurley has to be the bad guy.He's completely right of course, there's going to be a frenzy for this stuff, with him ending up the scapegoat for the anger. His initial solution to blow it all up is, of course, not the right solution. Just giving it out to everyone makes for a nice scene, especially when Claire finally gets that peanut butter.
Meanwhile, we find out that the "others" are not the others, but the tail section survivors. Man, they've had it a whole lot rougher than the front section people. There's only five of them left. Convenient that one of them is Rose's husband. The moment when they pull Michael and Jin out of the pit, but leave Sawyer is funny. "You want me, hotlips? Come get me" SLAM "Bitch."
Hurley's flashback is a bit eh. He steals some chicken, quits his job, and cruises around with his friend for a while, never cashing in his lottery ticket. There's something that bothers me. I work at a grocery store that sells lottery tickets. We have at least a hundred people a day come in for tickets. No store clerk is ever going to remember the person he sold an exact set of numbers to. Never.
...And Found:
Let's see, is that two Jin and Sun episodes in a row where they've made a Lost joke with the title?
The tailies and the rafties set out together to get to the fronties camp. Jeez, that's a lot of nicknames. Michael runs off to try to find Walt, and Jin and Eko run off after him. So far I really like Eko. He's badass, and a good guy to boot. Ana Lucia is rather a bitch. What is it about this show's female characters? With the exception of Sun, I'm not really invested in any of them. My thoughts on Kate I've already made clear, Shannon is a bratty princess, and Claire's entire character is defined by having a baby.
Sun's plotline of losing her wedding ring didn't do a whole lot for me either. Yeah, I know, she thinks Jin is dead, so losing the ring is a real tragedy for her. Jack tries to help, and fails miserably. Kate actually does help, though. Why on Earth did she want to look through the messages, though? Is it just because she Kate, and is a terrible person?
Liked the flashback, though. I think I've said before that I love Sun and Jin. Jin gets saddled with a real jerk of a boss. Has there ever been a nice boss in all of fiction, though? Sun gets forced in to matchmaking, and just as soon as she's starting to like the guy, he tells her that he's already got plans. What a jerk. Man, I've been laying the hate on people in this review. When the two finally meet it made me smile a bit. So it was love at first sight.
Now I just gotta go back and remember everything that happened these last episodes. These next few write ups may be a bit briefer, since it's been a few days since I've watched them.Orientation:
We go over the same ground a third freaking time! But this time, we finally move on a bit. So, there's a computer that they someone has to type the number in to every 108 minutes (4+8+15+16+23+42=108) or the world will end. This place has been set up by the Dharma Inititive, which could be an evil, sadistic corporation. Desmond bails, which leaves the castaways to be the number-punchers.
The rafties get captured and thrown in the pit, where they meet Ana Lucia, the woman who was flirting with Jack in the airport....and oh she's actually one of the "others"
The flashback in this one is somewhat less interesting than Locke's previous ones. He gets some professional help, he gets some from Katey Sagal, and is possibly able to move on. Not as compelling as the "OMG! He's a cripple" and kidney theft moments, though.
Everybody Hates Hugo:
The inevitable question of what to do with the food is brought up, and Hurley has to be the bad guy.He's completely right of course, there's going to be a frenzy for this stuff, with him ending up the scapegoat for the anger. His initial solution to blow it all up is, of course, not the right solution. Just giving it out to everyone makes for a nice scene, especially when Claire finally gets that peanut butter.
Meanwhile, we find out that the "others" are not the others, but the tail section survivors. Man, they've had it a whole lot rougher than the front section people. There's only five of them left. Convenient that one of them is Rose's husband. The moment when they pull Michael and Jin out of the pit, but leave Sawyer is funny. "You want me, hotlips? Come get me" SLAM "Bitch."
Hurley's flashback is a bit eh. He steals some chicken, quits his job, and cruises around with his friend for a while, never cashing in his lottery ticket. There's something that bothers me. I work at a grocery store that sells lottery tickets. We have at least a hundred people a day come in for tickets. No store clerk is ever going to remember the person he sold an exact set of numbers to. Never.
