Lost from the beginning (NO SPOILERS)

Just some of the lines I found interesting. It's hard to comment without commenting, ya know?

The Moth:

I'm sure future episodes will fill in the gap, but for now the transition seems jarring.

Kinda early in the show to begin picking off regulars, so there's really little sense of danger.

Don't worry. Everything makes sense in the end ... isn't that the way tv shows always are?

And yeah, definitely too early to pick off regulars. Surely they can't kill off too many more, right?

Homecoming:

Taking a life changes you, and I hope the writers don't forget this.

Writers forget only what they wish to forget.

Outlaws:

Oh, and Sawyer meeting Jack's father in the bar smacks of some amazing coincidence to me. Of course, it could not be a coincidence at all and there's some higher power at work drawing these people together. I guess I'll find out.

You're astute about coincidences.

...In Translation:

Lost...In Translation. Oh ha ha, I get it.

I think this makes the scene in the airport where he shows Sun the flower even more poignant.

Gotta love Jin and Sun.

The Greater Good:

Shannon sics Sayid on Locke which leads to some really great scenes. These two are the most awesome characters on the show.

Yup. Terry O'Quinn truly deserved an Emmy nod.

Born to Run:

I hate Kate. Simple as that. I hate her even more than Sawyer (who I'm actually starting to like.)

They maybe had hunches based on motivation, but there was never any solid enough evidence that we saw to actually go to the person and make an accusation. At least it finally comes out to everyone that Kate is the fugitive. No more of this sneaking around.

Sneaking around by a character on LOST? Lack of evidence? Really?

Exodus:

The black smoke that they thought was the Others coming has no others near it though. No foot prints in the sand either. Well, isn't that peculiar.

... and poor Artz goes boom, in a real holy crap moment, that was pretty darkly humorous, too.

I'm a man of science, myself, though I'm inclined to agree with Locke in this case. Too many coincidences. Too many things that are unexplainable. There's something else at work here.

That black smoke is a bit mysterious, isn't it?

Lot's of "holy crap moments" on this show. Hope you like them.

All those "coincidences" still bothering you? Don't worry about them.

Everybody Hates Hugo:

... especially when Claire finally gets that peanut butter.

I read that Emily de Raven is actually allergic to peanut butter.

Somebody tell me if I said too much? As it is, keep posting, OdoWanKenobi. It's great to read it through your eyes.

I've been reading and meant to comment a few times, but since I don't visit the Lost forum much any more I keep on forgetting. :alienblush:

Thus begins a trek in to the jungle under the guise of a...
That sentence fragment pretty much sums up Lost.

Deus Ex Machina:
Locke runs off in anger/sorrow, and then a light goes on underneath the hatch. Oooooooooooh.
One of my favourite moments in the show, and a moment that will be revisited a few more times. What happened inside the hatch that night is a wonderful scene in its own right.

Do No Harm:

Boone's in a pretty bad state, and things are looking grim. After many attempts, Jack is finally forced to let go, and Boone bites it. Can't say it really moved me. I haven't been terribly enamored with Boone.
I liked Boone because he reminded me of me (except the incest part). He was a nice enough guy that really wanted to help out, but he was barely competent and ended up getting himself killed. If I was on that island, I would have been Boone.

Born to Run:

I hate Kate. Simple as that. I hate her even more than Sawyer (who I'm actually starting to like.) She's always out to save her own hide and doesn't care who gets caught in the crossfire. I don't know what she did to make her dying mother scream for help like that, but I wouldn't put the worst of things past her. The explanation of the airplane disappoints me. Honestly, she's not worthy of owning that thing. She is directly responsible for his death. She's supposed to be the female lead? I can't stand her. I have no sympathy for her.
Yay! It's so great when new viewers come to hate Kate on their own, it justifies my own intense hatred for the character. Sadly, the writers disagreed with us:

Exodus:

Oh well, on the way back, they run in to the robot/dinosaur sounding thing that is actually...smoke?
Yes. :) It makes sense when you think about it, doesn't it?

No? :wtf:

Too many things that are unexplainable.
The other sentence that sums up Lost quite well. :p

Kate continues to suck
That's pretty much her entire character arc.

and Locke is forced to endure severe indignity.
This is Locke's.

I can't imagine what you guys must have gone through waiting all summer. Me, I just have to pop the next disc in. Which I'm going to do very shortly. Bring on Season 2!
I considered taking up heroin in order to pass the time. The wait was that bad. I've never experienced a cliffhanger that effective.

Man of Science, Man of Faith:

He let the other man die without a second thought, and was ready to dismiss Sarah as well.
The surname of the guy that died is Rutherford. Shannon's surname is Rutherford. Coincidence? :)

No.

In any other show I would say she was losing it, but this is Lost. I'm sure she saw something.
In the great scheme of things, it's probably best to think that she was losing it.

Adrift:

Locke, meanwhile is forced to type some familiar numbers in to a computer which does.....something. I don't know.
It feeds the hamsters under the island that turn the wheel. The frozen donkey wheel.

No, didn't take up heroin, what I just said will make sense eventually.

Or not.

I had to rewind and freeze to be sure, but the shark that was stalking them had a Dharma tattoo on it. That's interesting. I have no idea what it means right now, but it's a cool "blink and you'll miss it" mystery.
That's Ezra James Sharkington. You'll see him again some day.

Orientation:

The flashback in this one is somewhat less interesting than Locke's previous ones. He gets some professional help, he gets some from Katey Sagal, and is possibly able to move on. Not as compelling as the "OMG! He's a cripple" and kidney theft moments, though.
This is a bit of a problem with season 2, some of the flashbacks seem superfluous and don't tie into the island story that well, at least not as well as they did back in the first season. They'll find various ways around that problem in the future, but in this season it can be a problem. In my opinion, Locke had two of the best flashback episodes in season 1, but in season 2 he has two of the most boring.

Everybody Hates Hugo:

Hurley's flashback is a bit eh.
Told you so.

...And Found:

Liked the flashback, though.
And this episode is the exception that proves the rule. ;)

Michael runs off to try to find Walt
WAAAAAAAALT!

So far I really like Eko. He's badass, and a good guy to boot.
Yeah, Eko's great. He quickly became my second favourite character on the show, right after Locke. (But later this season he got pushed down to #3 by... somebody else.)

Yeah, if we want to post here, we gotta be careful about the maybe-spoilers. Even saying you feel positive or negative about a specific character can be tough if the character evolves and changes significantly, leaving you feel the opposite.

But, regardless of any feeling for Sawyer, yea or nay, he's got a great smile.

It's really enjoyable to read the OP's posts, but I really don't wanna ruin it for him. And I don't think anyone here wants to either. Cause that'd just be really douche-y.

Yeah, that's the big downside of these type of threads, the people who have no problems spoiling it for the OP. Or trying to push a perception.

As for the point about the female characters on the show, I gotta agree with you. Sun and one other character are really the only main females I liked off of the top of my head.

Ok, lets get me caught up with write ups, here.

Abandoned:

Sawyer ain't looking to good. Our rag tag band of castaways need to start hauling ass, so they cut through the jungle. This scares the crap out of all of them, especially when one of the expendable (non-main cast) ones goes missing.

The shows writers also reveal why they are bastards. In this episode they actually made me, for the first time, feel some sympathy for Shannon. Of course, it helps when she's played against Boone's mother, who I believe may be Satan incarnate. Then they kill her off. And it's Ana Lucia pulling the trigger. Well, I hated her anyways.

Oh, and crazy coincidence number 10343, Shannon's father was the other person in the accident with Sarah, that Jack let die.

The Other 48 Days:

Wow, full flashback episode. A pretty vital one, I think, though. The tailies had it pretty rough. They weren't even fortunate enough to land on the ground. Ana Lucia takes charge, and Eko takes a vow of silence. Then, the Others come and start taking them. Eko shows why he's badass by taking two of them out. Even he can't hold them off forever though, and the number of survivors continues to dwindle. Eventually they have a suspect: A guy named Nathan. With this episode there has now been an Aaron, a Nathan, and an Ethan on this show. Those are the names of my three brothers. If a Ben (my name) turns up, I'm gonna be a little freaked out.

What's this? A Lost character making baseless accusations? Never seen that before. Poor Nathan gets tortured in a hole for days before finally getting killed by the real Others spy. Ana Lucia then leaps to another conclusion, though this time she actually has some evidence to back it up. Howbout that? Cool bit of continuity with the radio. I had forgotten about that transmission. Boone died for nothing. Fast forward a bit and we not return you to last week's cliffhanger.

Collision:

Sawyer finally gets some medical help, but whether or not he will survive is up in the air (they just killed one hot regular, I doubt they'll kill another so soon.) Ana Lucia feels guilt? I can't tell. She handles this the absolute wrong way. Her flashback doesn't help. I understand she underwent severely traumatic events, but going all vigilante isn't the way. How the hell did she get away with that anyways? I mean, the guy getting killed the very next day after being brought in? The bullets that can surely be traced back to a police issue handgun?

Sayid's line about them both being dead would be good if I bought the foundation of Sayid and Shannon's relationship at all. They never worked for me at all. I really really hope that her death doesn't destroy Sayid's character. I thought Jack acted a bit too familiar with Ana Lucia, too. He met her once and flirted with her in the airport bar. He knew she was on the plane. That doesn't really warrant the kind of reaction he has to hearing her name.

The final scene of the episode, with all the reunions, was fantastic. Almost brought a tear to my eye.

Wow, what a weird coincidence.

Please keep posting your reviews. Like everyone else, I love seeing a new fan get into an awesome series like Lost, especially with the show being over.

Really?! Must be just a co-in-ci-dente, right?

(respects to Father Guido Sarducci)

What Kate Did:

Well, at least the title is honest. I still hate Kate. We learn her crime, finally. She killed her abusive stepfather that is actually her real father. Eh, ok. I don't really care by this point. I've completely lost interest in all things related to Kate. Does she love Jack? Does she love Sawyer? I don't care. Jack should be too smart to put up with her bullshit, and there's absolutely no foundation for her feelings for Sawyer. She's the worst written character on this show, by far. Her actions have no basis in any rational thought.

I'm also rapidly losing interest in Jack. He's done just about nothing since the start of the season. He's just "there" right now. Far more interesting characters like Locke, and Eko are driving the plot. Hell, even Michael is doing more than Jack right now. Sawyer finally woke up, which is good because the show was coming up short on its redneck jackass quota, lately.

So, down in the hatch Eko and Michael watch the orientation tape. Eko acts all sagely before giving Locke the missing bits of the microfilm. They caution not to use the computer to contact the outside world. Of course you know they're going to try. No time is wasted, actually. Someone contacts them, and Michael picks up. After a very brief conversation, it's revealed that it might be WAAAAAAAAAALT on the other end.

Oh and there's a horse.

The 23rd Psalm:

The coincidences continue to stack up. Oh that's right. "Don't mistake fat for coincidence." Charlie finally gets confronted about the Virgin Mary statue, by Eko of all people. Oh, what's that? He knows about the heroin, and he knows about the plane? Now how could that be?

Oh, because that's his heroin. The flashback in this episode is just great. Easily one of the best in the whole series. Eko is shown to be a brutal, soulless, criminal. It's insane the contrast between him then and now. Then his plan goes all to hell, and his brother is killed. This leads to a subtle, but absolutely convincing spiritual awakening. He's put on the path to become the Eko that he is today. What an interesting character. He also shows off what a badass he is, staring the smoke monster right down. Damn, that either takes balls, or a death wish.

Michael is continuing to annoy me. I understand the grief of losing his son, but he's acting like an idiot. Why does he feel he can't trust anyone else to help him? If it were me, I would have told Jack, or Locke, or hell, even Sawyer about what I saw on the computer.

And Charlie, oh Charlie. I'm so disappointed in you. I forsee Charlie plunging down a road to hell pretty soon.

The Hunting Party:

Michael runs off like an idiot. Surprise, surprise. The usual suspects (Jack, Locke, Sawyer, Kate) go out after him, which leads to the first true confrontation with the others. Some right bastards they are. Though, I have to admit they have a point. They were there first. Still, that's really no reason for the hostility. Oh well, I guess we need some villains. A sparsely appearing smoke monster doesn't cut it.

In the flashback we see how Jack's marriage fell apart. The guy just can't let go of anything. I think performing that surgery was rather irresponsible of him. He started buying in to his own hype, thinking himself a miracle worker. The point where he kissed the girl, I just wanted to slap him. Of course, his marriage was already over at that point, but he didn't know it yet.

Looks like Hurley is harboring a little crush. I'll admit, seeing the under-appreciated fat guy get some action would be great vicarious living for me.

Once the crew gets back, Jack and Ana Lucia talk about what is either the smartest or the dumbest course of action: building an army. I mean, they know the others are watching them. Training people to fight is probably going to provoke response. But on the other hand, they're practically defenseless right now. Ah, it's a crappy situation.

^ Didn't notice that. Funny typo.

Fire + Water:

I can see the writers conference for this episode in my head:

"I know! Let's take a relatively likeable character and completely assassinate them by having them act like an idiot!"

"Brilliant! Who should we do? Kate, maybe?"

"No. Kate is the best character on the show. Everybody loves her. We can't do that!"

"Ok, uh...Charlie, then."

"Brilliant!"

That pretty much sums up this episode: Charlie acting like a total idiot, and becoming a completely unsympathetic character in the process. I mean, what the hell did he think was going to happen? That Claire would be happy that he stole her baby and baptized it, and would let him back in to her heart? Yeah, right. He's lost the trust of everyone on the island, and he has nobody to blame but himself. Locke is right to take all those statues away from him. Charlie cannot be trusted to make the right choice, so by this point it has to be made for him. Though, I question Locke's choice to stash the statues in the hatch armory instead of just destroying them, and their contents.

The Flashback is more Charlie being an idiot. Here's a guy that seriously needed to get his priorities straight. Liam finally decided to clean himself up, for his family. Charlie on the other hand, is angry at Liam for this, thinking he's abandoning the band. Well, yeah, you junkie moron. Liam finally realized what was really important, and it wasn't the sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The diaper commercial scene was painful. I really could have gone without seeing that. Isn't crap like that usually a sign that a band is a has been? (or a never was in the case of Driveshaft.)

Hurley gets the guts to talk to Libby. It's a little ambiguous if he gets anywhere. Stepping on someone's foot isn't exactly the best first impression.

Speaking of cheap Hurley jokes, I'd think him stepping on someone's foot would make a very good impression. :)
