Kate goes to a whole lot of trouble for the hugely important and life changing....model airplane? There had better be more to that story. Also worth note, I think I trust Sawyer more then I do Kate at this point. He may be a selfish dick, but at least all his cards are on the table. Kate I can't get a read on at all. At least we finally get some confirmation as to her crime, namely that she killed someone. Oh, and she held up a bank too, for the aforementioned model airplane.
On the other front, Sayid and Shannon try to translate Delenn....I mean Danielle's writings. Unfortunately, Shannon is terrible at Minbar.....um, I mean French, and Sayid is impatient. Then it turns out it's the lyrics to Beyond the Sea? Madness taking over, or deeper significance? Meanwhile, Boone gets his creepy stalker on, Locke gets an axe, and Charlie gets some mental help.

I was never a fan of how they gave him the Vader-like chokehold, it really clashed with the realistic direction the show took in later seasons.
There will be an explanation about the toy plane, whether your opinion of Kate will change when you learn it is going to be a personal preference thing. For me, this was the episode where I began to dislike Kate as a character; she acted stupidly throughout the episode and handed over a case full of guns to one of the least trustworthy characters for no good reason. Not to mention the fact that they almost completely abandoned that thing Locke and Boone found to do a story on a far less interesting character.
Not that the thing they found amounted to much in the end.

So the metal is cleared off and it's a hatch! But there's no way of opening it right now, so on to the next mystery!
The flashbacks explain a lot. Namely, why Boone has had such a creepy stalker thing going on, and why he now hates Sayid. I'm glad they told us that Shannon and Boone were step-siblings before they had them bang, otherwise there would be major ewwww factor. I still can't really bring myself to like either one of them though. They're both unbelievably immature, though Boone shows some signs of being converted to the Locke-side at the end. Speaking of Locke, I can't decide whether this guy is brilliant, or a psychopath. Probably both.
Speaking of Sayid, I'm fairly certain he's dismissed the compass far too easily. Of course, that's most likely because I'm watching a show that has mystery after mystery, and am not personally stranded on an island. A large magnetic fluctuation over the island seems pretty easy to believe in light of the fact that this island also has polar bears and a monster.
The subplot with Hurley and Jin is good for some comic relief, though I would really like to see both of these characters play a more active role in the plot. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the scene where Hurley stepped on the urchin and was begging Jin to pee on his foot gave me the impression that Jin understands more English than he lets on. Are Sun and Jin both hiding from each other that they speak English?

That thing is actually quite important, I can't believe that it skipped my mind.Don't worry, they'll return to it soon, Lost isn't the sort of show to drag out a mystery of that magnitude.
It really doesn't matter so long as he remains awesome.
Body language says a lot. And Jin is learning.
Daniel Dae Kim says that every Korean knows some English, and he was playing it that way in that scene.
Might want to spoiler code that, since I don't think it's been revealed at the point that OdoWanKenobi is watching at.
OdoWan did ask that specific question, but I think it was more rhetorical than looking for an actual answer.
I don't think there's any spoilers there, Sun revealed that she can speak English to Michael back in House of the Rising Sun and that Jin didn't know about it. And it's not really a spoiler to say that Jin can't speak English, it's not a secret that's going to be revealed, it's one of his defining characteristics.
The quote below from his last episode review suggests that he doesn't know if Jin can speak English or not.
Considering half the fun of Lost was over thinking every little detail, speculating on what things meant, only for some of them to actually mean something and some not, I don't see why we can't let OdoWanKenobi enjoy the same experience. With a show like Lost, it's not just about not giving away what happens, but also not stamping out his speculated possibilities. I mean, why not err on the side of caution on this and just get enjoyment out of his reaction to things that are now familiar to us?
Of course, OdoWanKenobi should have the final say on whether this matters at all or not.
Whoa! What a shit storm I created! Sorry. I was just speculating. I know Jin can't speak English. I just thought that perhaps from that scene he might know more than he let on, since he seemed to understand Hurley to an extent. It was rhetorical speculation, nothing more. And no, telling me definitively that Jin can't speak English is not a spoiler.

So....um, I really don't have much to say about this episode. I just don't find Michael or Walt compelling. They haven't done anything. They're building a raft now, which I agree with Sayid is foolhardy. I don't know, I just can't bring myself to care much. Locke does continue to be awesome, though. Boone however, being Locke's new disciple, has decided the best way to be like Locke is to be a dick. Oh well, he's another character I haven't warmed to. On the other hand, Sawyer is growing on me. Yeah, he's a dick, but he's quickly becoming one of those "love to hate" characters.
Oh yeah, and Claire comes back.

I went crazy and watched three episodes in a row! 
Homecoming:
Claire's back and with amnesia. Wow, never seen that one on a show before
Sayid even mentions how rare it is. I guess the reason is that the writers don't want her to be able to lead the castaways back to the others yet. Then Ethan goes and starts killing people to get Claire back. Time for a little justice, I guess. Sayid and Locke were logical choices to get guns. Jack only gets one because of his main character status. Sawyer.....well, when did they start trusting him? Charlie being the one to pull the trigger I actually didn't see coming. Guy's come a long way in a short time.
The flashbacks worked well to establish why he's latched on to Claire. He feels the need to take care of someone, and now that he's finally starting to take care of himself, maybe he has a chance. It was kinda hard seeing him train wreck his life. Of course now he's got an entirely different set of problems to deal with. Taking a life changes you, and I hope the writers don't forget this.
Outlaws:
A boar is out to get Sawyer. Can't say I blame him. The guy's an ass. But, he's an ass that I'm warming to. Whoa, wait, that sentence came out wrong. He's truly a man who is broken. He was so blinded by revenge that he shot first, and ended up killing an innocent man. That's why he feels the need to be hated. Of course, him letting the boar go makes sense for his character arc, but they could have used the food. Just saying.
I'm glad they didn't forget about Charlie. Hurley and Sayid try to offer some therapy, but Charlie will have none of it. It's obviously denial. Hopefully, this won't be the last we hear about it.
Oh, and Sawyer meeting Jack's father in the bar smacks of some amazing coincidence to me. Of course, it could not be a coincidence at all and there's some higher power at work drawing these people together. I guess I'll find out.

Lost...In Translation. Oh ha ha, I get it.
I find Jin and Sun to be two of the most interesting characters on the show right now. Jin is an angry guy, and he has every right to be. He's in a bad situation, and he's stuck as an outsider due to the language barrier. Seeing the events of the House of the Rising Sun flashbacks from his point of view shed a lot of light on him. I had thought previously that perhaps the power had gotten to him. But here we see a man that just got in way over his head. He's a good guy and he loves his wife. He also was going to make the right choice when it mattered, and choose his marriage over his job. I think this makes the scene in the airport where he shows Sun the flower even more poignant.
The big event in this episode is the raft burning, which leads to Sun revealing she can speak English to everyone. Jin, in his rage though, cannot find it in himself to forgive her today. The revelation that it was Walt who burned the raft surprised me, but in hindsight made a lot of sense. He's seemed happy on the island since he got there, and balked at Micheal's talk of cities. Locke seems to agree. Sayid and Shannon are getting it on now, too. Lucky him, I guess.
Oh and hey, was that Hurley on the television?
