Lost footage of TOS found in Roddenberry vault. Bluray forthcoming.

Stuff that should have been on the original DVD release 15 odd years ago. Stuff that should have been on the Blu-rays 5 years ago. Sorry Paramount, I have no more milk left in my teats. All you'll be able to get now is bloody pus.

Oh, be fair. Paramount didn't even know this stuff still existed or where it was. Be glad we're seeing it at all!

^^
Years of being fleeced by Paramount and their incremental releases (non-anamorphic movie DVDs to anamorphic movie DVDs to Special Edition movie DVDs to Special Edition Movie DVDs with one or two more extras to Special Edition Movie DVDs in Collections to Special Edition Movie DVDs in Steelbooks makes me sceptical to the max... I wouldn't be surprised if some of this 'recently discovered' material isn't lurking in the depths of Youtube already.

Is this just supplementary material or are they reconstructing the episodes to include the new footage?

That's what I'm wondering. 12 hours of episodes seem a bit excessive to pack in if it's just the episodes themselves. All Paramount has to say is "Deleted scenes from the original Star Trek" to guarantee blowout sales, especially if there's 'hundreds of film reels' available to draw from.

I remember an old copy of Xmen I bought had the option to 'insert' the missing footage but it was clumsy, not edited, just inserted. It would take a lot of effort to rescore them I suspect. Since some of the footage is also just different camera angles, I suspect the most we can hope for is an option to clumsily re-insert them. Once they're out there though, I daresay some clever editors will work on proper home copies. We just need to choose our friends wisely.

I'm with you. Quite an amazing coincidence that they happened to find all this material just in time for the 50th... I don't think it's cynical at all to suspect that this material was held back from the blu-rays in order to create ANOTHER "special edition." Sorry, Paramount, you've gotten your money out of me. I'll buy a used copy on EBay for 1/5 the price 6-12 months after the initial release.

Heck, including the 12 episodes in order to jack up the price of the new material discs is a pretty sleazy cash grab. They know full well that most people buying this will already have multiple copies of those episodes. I would maybe buy it if the price was commiserate to the amount of new material they're offering...but not with the price jacked up by 12 episodes I own multiple copies of.

Isn't a little early to pass judgement, since we don't know the price yet?

Considering they could've been even more moneygrubbing, and made this new content exclusive to that $200 50th box-set... Is the prospect of having to buy one set containing 12 episodes, because they are relevant to the newly found footage, that bad? Don't pre-order or buy it if you don't think much of CBS' decisions. I'm doing that with the aforementioned 50th, in favour of waiting to see what happens with an individual TAS. I presume that's the equivalent reverse idea, of assuming more TOS deletions will come to light and be combined into the same set in future.

I suspect that this material was in Majel Barrett's possession until her death in late 2008. Shortly thereafter, it became the property of Rod Roddenberry.

Blaming CBS or Paramount for not exploiting material which they never physically owned and may not have known about seems rather short-sighted.

Honestly, I find it totally plausible that the process could have taken seven years, between negotiating with CBS, locating all the material, having the material digitized, having the material reviewed and cataloged by the Okudas and others, and filming dozens of new interviews for a series of new documentaries.

Ok deleted scenes experts -- what's missing from those episodes?
I know for COTEOF they shot an entire sequence where McCoy is captured and then escapes again.
Chapel is in the cut footage.
Space seed has a scene where Angela tells McGivers that a crewman has a crush on her.
Mirror has more footage of the Halkin leader explaining his beliefs.
Corbomite has a lot of stuff.
Operation has the scene of Kirk's nephew on the bridge at the end.

What else?

Is the episode Elaan of Troyius included? There's a big scene where they discuss playing Vulcan music through Elaan's quarters that would perhaps calm her foul mood. Here's the link to the dialogue and still pics. Would be wonderful to see this. Uhura has much more dialogue. http://www.startrekhistory.com/DS1.html

This will appeal to the collector's market, mainly, which is dominated by the Blu-Ray format. A DVD release won't make sense unless CBS could get the title into a major retailer like Walmart, Best Buy, or Target. Given the niche appeal of this material, I doubt that will happen.

I doubt it will too, which is why I said oh well".

No, it looks like the third season will be a different release from this one. No 3rd season episodes are included.
