Lorca: Fans Will Have To Adjust

Where they've obersed canon? Where?!

He makes it sound like fans are upset with the types of stories that they will tell and they've stayed spot on with the look of the series. Is he cookoo bananas?

His comments aren't even relevant because they're completely opposite to what fans have an issue with.

And while I'm not saying that I won't watch at least some of Discovery. I will say that he has never met this fan who has never seen a JJTrek film.

This post is just more hyped up nonsense.

Out.

Pure awesomeness. And the ones who will be / are most outraged are precisely the ones he is talking about. It's always hard to hear the unflattering truth and to see yourself in the mirror.

Sep 24 can't come fast enough....!!!! I've been subscribed for months to show my support.

Let's GOOOOOOOOO!

Wow, that was a really assholish thing to say.

Not sure I'd go that far but it's heading towards Robert Orci's bedside manner, just without the expletives. The best way for the actors to handle this topic is to just sidestep it. The actors were hired to act. They didn't write it and they didn't handle the art direction so they should not have to answer for canon violations.

yes but in todays social media world I bet he is getting hit hard on social media by the so-called fans of the show who haven't even seen a single episode yet so are complaining about assumptions not on what they actually made. That scenario would make me pissed off too.

At any moment on the internet someone is bashing even the most celebrated and popular entertainment. You don't go around trying to answer every critic. That's an insecure Donald Trump type attitude to have.

The negativity around discovery is not the same as most shows. Not even close. Closest comparison I can come up with is the new BSG.

If you're going to watch it anyway, why should he give a shit about you being offended?

And, if you're not going to watch it anyway, why should he give a shit about you being offended?

And....there's nothing that pisses off an enraged fan more than being irrelevant.

He's not shitting on the fanbase, he's just shitting on you (and that small minority of fandom like yourself). We (and Trek) will do just fine.

How dare you insult my Trekkiedom! I've got over 50 years of experienced Trekienessdom under my belt, and you can't tell me about my Trekieness pathology! I used to walk 10 miles in the snow to watch Star Trek on a black and white TV, so don't tell me whatever it is that you're saying.

For all the STD fanzboyz who missed the blatant error in his statement:

Ah, rookie mistake. Pike's appearance in the original pilot isn't said to be 10 years before Kirk's era. So you've never seen this era of Star Trek that Discovery is about to present.
Pike was Captain of the Enterprise somewhere between the 2250s to 2262, right before Kirk took command in 2265, but with no specific date given, and what we see in those clips is never given an exact date. Moreso, we see no other ships or uniforms in that episode but the Enterprise, a vessel already 20 years old before Kirk took command. So you have nothing, sir. Nothing.

"Fanboyz." Fuck that. I've been a Trek fan since I was 4 years old, and I love the new movies, and am looking forward to the new series. Dislike them all you want, but don't denigrate me or anyone else because you can't comprehend how others may like something you don't. It doesn't make them any less of a fan, nor you more of one.

"The Cage" was 13 years prior to the events of "The Menagerie". Per Spock's under oath statements while presenting evidence to avoid a death sentence.

And? Even 13 years prior to Kirk taking command, the ship was already 7 years old when the events at Talos take place. Star Trek loved to play fast and loose with time, hence why stardates were used, and were inconsistent for much of the first season. He still has nothing. Is Pike wearing an old uniform? A new uniform? The show doesn't say. We know there is a visual upgrade of the Enterprise, as well as the uniforms during the first season of the original series. You know what that means? Lots and lots of wiggle room.

So yes, he has nothing.

This is a bit arrogant. His job depends on if viewers watch the series. If the new series has no similarity with the old trek, people will stop watching it. I personally will watch it, at least first season. But, that being said, there was one more sci fi show, Eureka, that changed dramatically after 3rd or 4th season, so I just stopped watching it. It had no similarities with first season, which was the reason I started watching it.
Be rude to your viewers, have no respect for what was before you, and you will certainly lose viewers. Not in the first season, maybe even in second, but people will want real trek back.

Wow, that was a really assholish thing to say. He was one of the only things I was hopeful about in the show, too. Well, screw him. I have absolutely no respect left for him,.
To be fair and perhaps blunt, but from his point of view, guys like you have been saying 'assholish' things about DSC for weeks now.... how much respect have you shown the people involved?
People hate watch things all the time.
Really? I cannot imagine someone taking time to 'hate watch' something..... life is so short, why waste your time on something like that.........?
