POE I got to get to my droid before the First Order does! FINN What - a droid?! POE That's right. He's a BB unit! Orange and white: one of a kind. FINN I don't care what color he is! No droid can be that important! POE This one is, pal. FINN We need to get as far away from the First Order as we can! We go back to Jakku, we die! POE That droid's got a map that leads straight to Luke Skywalker! __________________________________ Isn't that secret information? What if Finn was acting and is still working for the First Order and they were trying to get Poe to say where BB-8 was? Poe doesn't know that Kylo found that out from mind reading him as far as we know. He just says he has to get BB-8 before the First Order does.
If Poe doesn't spill those beans to Finn, Finn never recognizes BB-8 and stops to take a closer look at him, BB-8 never spots him, Rey never chases him, and the whole story dies right there. Rey knows nothing about BB-8's importance or the link to Luke Skywalker. So if Finn doesn't know and Rey doesn't know, nobody knows. Not even BB-8 really knows what he is carrying, presumably- just that it is something important to Poe. The whole thing could probably have been written a lot better, but then that's been true of every SW screenplay after TESB.
Yeah and if one Imperial officer had been a little less squeamish about blowing up empty escape pods, then none of the events of the OT happen. Who knew stories required things to happen to move them along!?!
It's not clear whether he knows what Kylo found out, and so he shouldn't be spilling the beans to imperials.
Because there are more instances of lazy writing in TFA. ANH has about 3 that take me out of the movie. -The gunner scene mentioned upthread -"door's locked, move onto the next one" -Leia leading the Empire right to the rebel base TFA has at least 10.
It was an easy out, but not as easy as the excuse used to have Anakin and Padme go on the run together despite the objections of everyone else in the movie.
? Palpatine is the one who maneuvered them into that scenario. He suggests Ani and Obi, and then creates the event that separates Ani and Obi. So no, at most it's as easy as my OP, definitely not moreso as the only "easy" thing is the council choosing to delegate the task of protecting her to Anakin, but as they say in the crawl and film, the growing separatist movement has spread the Jedi very thin.
Having Palpatine do it is the easy excuse. It could have been a character choice. Maybe Padme insists on Anakin suggesting that she at least found him attractive. It would have at least given her something of a character other than Luke and Leia's future dead mother.
Having Palpatine do it is part of the story being told though. He is a manipulator who is doing all he can to destabilize Anakin.
His plan sure does depend on so many variables working out in his favor, it's almost like it was shitty writing that people try to justify by making up excuses that it was Palpatine the whole time. His plan would have gone horribly wrong if Anakin and Padme hadn't gone to Tatooine to find his mother dying just as he found her allowing him to commit genocide, which wasn't a turn-off for Space Eva. Then they both go to Genonois after Obi-Wan conveniently locates the clone army that Palpatine ordered a decade ago, based on the advice of his CG cartoon friend, then they get captured and then finally falling in love. One thing goes wrong and Padme has an awkward weekend with a creep she knew as a child and Palpatine is fucked.
