BSG didn't prove that people don't want the old format at all, it's ratings were practically identical to SG-1 and Atlantis' when they ran alongside each other, and relative to the hype, it's number were actually pretty poor. For better or worse, I'd say there's still a market for the more generic Trek style sci-fi shows. I just hope that another channel rushes into fill the niche that Syfy seems to be abandoning. Perhaps Spike will take the mantle for genre shows?
That's not true SG-1 had pretty steady ratings over it's tenure.
It was SGA and SGU that had a continous slide.
It is true. The ratings are all on Gateworld. All three series had a ratings high in the same year SG-1 was in it's 8th season, and from then on they all followed the same decline.

I've seen them but I seemed you were generalizing the statement for all of SG-1. I must have missed that part from 8th season onward.
