Little moments in movies you love.

Super Mario Bros.
I can never quite get the quote right, but it's the scene where Koopa first meets the Mario Bros., pretending to be their public defender. Mario suddenly learns who Koopa really is.
"You're Koopa? But you just said he was-"
"'...A mean, egg-sucking, son of a snake.' Did I lie?"

Superman Returns
A couple moments in the film where Clark Kent steals glances of Lois Lane from across the room while she isn't looking. It so perfectly captures that feeling of what it's like to be in love with someone who doesn't love you back. That's why I feel this film is Bryan Singer's masterpiece.

Back to the Future, Part II
Ever since I was a kid, I've always loved... the Wallet Guy!

Back to the Future, Part III
"Freeze!"
"Is this a hold up?"
"It's a science experiment." (My mother's favorite line.)

Rushmore
In the scene where Miss Cross first directly confronts Max about his crush on her, she asks him, "Has it occurred to you that you're far too young for me?" Max then acts very indignant when he responds, and while he responds to her, he pointedly gets up to sharpen his pencil. It's all these little moments of arrogant business that make Max such an interesting character and Rushmore such a great film. Bill Murray has some similar great moments in the film, like when he's in the hospital elevator, pours liquor into a flask, then hides the discarded bottle among some stacks of clean sheets.

Batman Returns
Almost any of Christopher Walken's scenes. The more I watch the movie, the more I watch it solely for him. Some of my favorite moments of his:

"I forgot my speech. Remind me to take it out on whatshername."

"It's not like you can just kill me."
"Actually, it's a lot like that." (Pauses. They both have a good laugh. Then he actually pushes her out the window.)

"Surplus? Bruce, shame on you. There's no such thing. One can never have too much power. If my life has a meaning, that's the meaning."

"Bottom line, she tries to blackmail me, I'll push her out a higher window. Meantime, I got better fish to fry."

Similarly, Danny DeVito has some excellent moments as the Penguin:

"I believe the word you're looking for is... 'Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!'"

"It could be worse. My nose could be gushing blood." (I love quoting this line whenever I feel particularly random.)

V for Vendetta
Any time Chancellor Sutler or Lewis Prothero starts ranting. "I want everyone to remember why they need us!"

Ghostbusters
"Are you, Alice, menstrating right now?"
"What's that got to do with it?"
"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Janine answers the door and sees the police there. Deadpan, "Dropping off or picking up?"

"We'd like to take a sample of your brain."
"OK."

There are some seemingly random still shots during the closing credits of Rain Man that include a woman's feet. These are still photos taken by Raymond during the adventure.

I also love how the film always focuses on what would capture Raymond's attention, like focusing on the stripes on the road, or the guardrails as the car passes by

Another one from Seven I thought of last night when discussing it with my girlfriend...

"This isn't even my desk." Not just the line, but the moment. It serves no purpose to the film, didn't need to be there. It just was.

It's much like "Get out of the chair." Didn't need to be there, but got a laugh from me.

...and Blade 2. When Blades quoting the cliche about keeping friends close and enemies closer while talking about Whistler and everyone's suspicion that he can't be trusted, when the real bad guy in his group is in the background.

The part in Ghostbusters when they are in the elevator turning on the proton pack and hearing the hum, they take a step back as if it'll explode or something.

Saving Private Ryan
Captain Miller revealed that before the war, he was a teacher.

The Incredibles
Helen called Edna on the phone. She seems to hate her old super hero name.

Batman and Robin
The flash back sequence showed Alfred reading to young Bruce. It is probably the only scene that shows Alfred being a father figure to Batman.

Batman: The Dark Knight
At the press conference, Harvey Dent claims to be Batman.

The Rock
Cage lied about Connery, saying he works with the Fed, when the Fed was really after him. “Gee whiz John, we better get going.” Or something like that.

Matrix
Neo’s reaction to the truth of the Matrix.

Apollo 13
Tom Hanks was imagining what it would be like walking on the moon. Looks really fun.

Stay:
When Henry was dying and character of Ewan McGregor says all the time "Stay with us. Do not go"

Terminator 2:
death of terminator in lava

can't remember the other moments right now

What comes to mind is a tiny little bit in MASH where Henry Blake is getting ready to leave for a day trip to Seoul and he's talking to the nurse with whom he's been fooling around. They have a brief exchange about her doing his laundry or something, he protests that she doesn't need to do that and she says it's already been done.

Then she notices his coat, compliments it, and asks if it's new.

Henry says, "Oh, yes... my w--uhhh, it was sent to me."

(The point being, it's obvious that he was just on the edge of saying that his wife sent it to him, and at the last moment he realized that it might not be quite the thing to say in this situation.)

Roger Bowen gave such a wonderfully subtle performance as Henry in that film. He does a lot of that kind of thing, where he almost says/actually says something that isn't quite appropriate, and then immediately backpedals. Another good example is just after Spearchucker first arrives, and the first football practice is just about to get underway. Henry says, "Men, I just want you to remember that we're all the same out here on the playing field. (beat) Officers and enlisted men alike."

Oh, yeah. That movie proves Altman's genius.

The scence near the beginning when Hawkeye and Duke show up and Henry is trying to make introductions. Hilarious stuff, very reminisient of that scene where the Marx Brothers have all the people in the cabin on the ocean liner.

The other MASH bit I really appreciate is at the beginning of the scene I mention above. Henry tells Hawkeye he's gotten a message that he stole a jeep and Hawkeye says "No, sir, it's right there". And Henry just says "Oh, so it is" and forgets the whole thing.

Later, when Hawkeye and Duke leave, Blake asks Radar if they are stealing the jeep, to which Radar replies, "Oh, no sir, that's the one they came in.". Again, Blake just moves on the the next thing. Priceless.

Peter O'Toole in My Favorite Year, when he discovers he's about to perform in front of a live audience.
"Damn you. I'm not an actor! I'm a movie star!"

Or when Alan walks into the ladies' room:
Woman: Hey, this is for ladies only!

Alan Swann: [unzipping fly] So is *this*, ma'am, but every now and then I have to run a little water through it.
I love that movie too!

A few of my little moments:
Superman: The Movie
When he drills down to Luthor's Lair, the moment when he stops - and the cape does this neat little flair...

The Abyss
When Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's character 'dies' and Ed Harris' fight to revive her - two wonderfully talented actors in a great scene...

As many times as I have seen this scene, it still grips me every time. The whole cast is good, but Ed Harris is great. He is also fantastic as John Glenn in The Right Stuff.

The Incredibles:
When Bob returns home late Helen stretches her arm out to grab his shoulder than walks up to him (her arm shrinking the entire time). The fact that she's using her powers like it's just something that comes naturally, not as some scene that screams "LOOK SHE CAN STRETCH!!"

When Helen is vaccuuming the house and gets to Bob's office she hears the dirt then slumps down knowing she's got more cleaning to do (and an excuse to snoop).

After the Bob training montage as he's leaving for work, Helen checks out Bob's ass.

Violet's evil laugh after she pops a forcefield in front of Dash.

Dash running around slapping Violet.

Frozone and his skating technique.

so many awesome little moments surrounded by awesome big moments.

A Fistful of Dollars:
My mule don't like people laughing...

Also from The Incredibles: Helen, in the midst of infiltrating the bad guy's secret base, pauses to check herself out in the mirror.

LOTR - The flashback in The Two Towers; Aragorn is thinking about his last time with Arwen when he tries to break their bond and return the Evenstar. She is the epitome of quiet strength, dignity and faith when she tells him, "It was a gift. Keep it."

The police escort scene in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. The cops on motorcycles reminded me of medieval warriors on horseback.

Ordinary People when Conrad breaks down in Dr. Berger's office and asks the doctor if he's his friend and the doctor tells him that he is and that Conrad can count on it. Breaks my heart every time I see it.

Casino Royale when Bond is checking himself out in the tux Vesper picked out for him. Too funny.

Casino Royale when Bond pops a cap in the ass of the guy that earned him his 007 (opening sequence). Cold, deadly and cool at the same time.

Braveheart when William is rescued after Robert the Bruce's betrayal.

Tons more, but there's enough time to name them all.

Perhaps the smallest most effective moment in all of Star Wars, bar none, is when Han Solo gives the console/ doorframe an extra tap so the systems stay on. It's been argued whether or not this is realistic, but it truly defines the Millennium Falcon as a character and shows his relationship to it. This scene was homaged in DS9's pilot with Obrien getting the transporter to work.

As I was signing to myself (thankfully no one could hear ;)) I remembered a little moment in Hedwig & the Angry Inch in the opening song.

At the end Hedwig notices Yitzhak signing and unplugs his mic so he won't be overshadowed. A small moment that shows just how well their marriage is going.

i totally forgot Wall-E... Eve rolling her eyes at Wall-E when she's being taken away as a broken robot. Eve breaking the egg-beater, placing it back in it's spot then looking away as if nothing happened. Eve's enjoyment when she pops the first couple bubbles in the bubblewrap. Oh and Eve getting so frustrated with earth that after she is caught by the magnet she just starts blowing up the ships.
