TNG “Cost of Living”. Until now I’ve found Alexander insufferable, but I liked this more than I expected. I love Lwaxana! Unlike the stilted, staid Enterprise crew, she embodies a joie de vivre that’s so refreshing and fun — not to mention, she’s a rare depiction of a woman of a certain age who is not only in control of her destiny, but allowed to be fun, vibrant and sexual. There are some wonderfully touching moments when she realises she’s about to trade that, trade who she is, out of a desire to not be alone. Majel Barrett has recently lost Gene and the vulnerability and sadness in her eyes speaks volumes. The holodeck scenes are wonderfully weird, although the technobabble b-plot is shit.

Watched the pilot of Enterprise to see whether I could give the show another chance but....no.
Who thought "rednecks in space" would be a good idea outside of a comedy show? And why does Archer have that clueless expression on his face the whole time?
I get that they wanted to get away from the cliche of the "perfect" "bland" "evolved" humans, but...that was a bit too much in the other direction.

Does it get better later on? Do Archer and Tripp get less stupid/obnoxious? I mean those two really seem kinda dumb and like they shouldn't be the ones in key position on mankind's first important space vessel.

Does it get better later on? Do Archer and Tripp get less stupid/obnoxious? I mean those two really seem kinda dumb and like they shouldn't be the ones in key position on mankind's first important space vessel.

This very gradually lessens, but isn't really gone entirely until season 4. If you already have no tolerance left for Archer being an impossible dick, skip ahead to like "Regeneration" at the end of season 2... by then the dickishness is trailing off, and when it does surface, it's now at least well-motivated and dramatically compelling.

By contrast, the first two seasons are jam-packed with Archer being an impossible dick for no purpose other than just wanting to swing his dick around.

I just watched Star Trek: The (Slow) Motion Picture, as the start of a Prime Trek Film rewatch, which I figured it was time for since I've seen all these movies many times but not in the last year or so for most of them. This movie is still as slow and boring as ever, even if I like bits of it (Kirk/Spock/McCoy are great as always, and I actually like the slow introduction of the Refit Enterprise). Honestly with the TOS movies I consider it the worst, because at least TFF has a pretty good pace even if its script sucks.

Et In Arcadia Ego part 2. A lovely end to the first season of Picard, and with it, I have finally concluded my watch-through of every Star Trek episode, movie and short, in timeline order. All 743 of them!

It took well over a year, and I'm very happy to have seen and gained new appreciation for all of Star Trek.

DS9 "Who Mourns for Morn?" and TOS "Who Mourns for Adonais?"

WMfM? was amusing but lacking substance, much like the latinum missing from all those "worthless bricks of gold". I didn't really learn anything about anyone except for Morn, but there were a couple of nice little interactions between Bashir and O'brien, and Quark and Odo.
And WMfA? was over the top (especially Scotty, and Chekov's wig!), only saved by Lt. Palamas' difficult and emotional rejection of Apollo. At least Uhura got to show off some of her technical skills.

TNG “The Perfect Mate”. Gene Roddenberry would have been so proud of this episode. Not only because it’s a blatant remake of TOS’s “Elaan of Troyius” with a liberal dash of “Mudd’s Women”, but because the very plot is pure heterosexual male fantasy. I do have a problem with as the way women are portrayed and treated in TOS, but I can accept it as it is a product of its time. But this was the early 90’s, so I’m not really sure what went wrong. It’s a very poor episode at any rate.

I did a "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" double feature in the home theater, and it was everything I dreamed it would be.

It has probably been 20 years since I've carved out the 4 hours to do that. Awesome stuff.

I've always liked this one. The only issue is they spell out the mystery too early in the story.
