TNG: "A Fistful Of Datas"
TOS: "The Omega Glory"
I don't think I've ever actually seen "The Omega Glory" before! It is not good.
You're right. Not good. There were some good story ideas in there that could have made a good episode: Prime Directive vs. something on a planet that gives immortality, could have been an interesting situation to resolve, if the resolution weren't "just kidding, it doesn't really". Even "these people in a conflict are really great folks but they're about to be overrun by those barbarians" could have been a good episode if handled better. Parallel worlds right down to the number of stars on the American flag is just ridiculous. Even "Patterns of Force" made some minor changes in the German flag, and that parallelism was introduced from outside, not the world's biggest coincidence. Hard to tell what went wrong with Omega Glory. The story idea had been kicking around since the second pilot, so they had plenty of time to work on it. It was early in the 3rd season, so they shouldn't have been desperately short of time yet and just needing to get something to put on the air.
I love Omega Glory. It was a second season episode, not third.
Oh, end of 2nd. Maybe that is it, then, just out of time and energy to do another rewrite.
