I've read the Blish written adaptation, but never seen the episode (I can say that about a bunch of TOS episodes unfortunately, but that's what Netflix is for). I didn't really like it in that form, and I really didn't like watching it. A bad episode, even for season 3. I'd have rather watched Spock's Brain. Still, at least I can say I've seen it.
I'm suffering from Netflix withdrawals. I can't watch any episode of "Star Trek" whenever I want any more. And the only series I have on DVD is TOS and TAS.
I'm stuck watching TOS on Saturday nights on MeTV all butchered up. And the occasional TNG episode on BBCA.
Say what you will about the story, itself, but the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous! Marina and Gates are allowed to look radiant and especially lovely. As well, the way everything's lit is very atmospheric and tastefully done. Truly one of the prettiest pictures in the entire franchise, if not one of the most absurd, storywise.
