List of Trek questions that keep us up at night

Do the Borg have their own language that all drones hear the thoughts of other drones and the queen while linked to the collective? Or does each individual drone hear the collective in their own original language via a universal translator? What about incubated drones who never learned the language of their native species?

It would seem that the borg have their own language. Harry Kim learns it while working with Seven.

I'd assumed what Kim learned was the symbols used in written Borg on their computers so he could read their computer files and not spoken Borg . But you may be right, considering the incubated drones. But I'd also imagine that every drone is capable of speaking the languages of every species they've assimilated as well.

It's kinda strange though, because most borg don't speak to anyone,so they don't need all those languages. Seven is an exception.

No, they'd likely not have that information in their heads at all times, but I'm sure the collective's database has the necessary knowledge for individual drones to access when necessary.

Which doesn't happen very often when you spend all your time in the middle of a borg cube, without even a window to see what's outside.

I remember Icheb mentioning that he never thought about what was outside when on the cube when talking about his love of astronomy with Seven in the Astrometrics lab.

Binary is the Borg Collective's native language. When not communicating with other species, the communicate amongst each other in ones and zeroes.

Actually, that's kind of related to an old joke of mine. In First Contact, when the Queen says to Picard "do you still hear our song, Locutus?" I always imagined their song would be in binary and went on to sing "1100101" and so one.

Same as the Bynars, then? I wonder if there's any connection between the two?

^ Oh. What about "Your father was a baboon's rump and your mother spent most of her time up against walls with sailors"?

That makes me think of a dream sequence in an episode of Arthur (I think) where Brain has taught a computer to write a poem with 1s and 0s.

If you traced on a star map, in order by stardate, all of the places a ship was said to have gone, would there be inconsistencies that couldn't be explained save for an unmentioned anomaly?

Yes. Here's just a little example showing how the distances covered in a few episodes and films completely break the premise of DS9 and Voyager:

Don't forget that space is three-dimensional. So, the "galactic rim" could be referring to a place far closer than the very edge (maybe even the rim of one of the spiral arms, if not simply up or down). And I've seen people argue here that Star Trek V doesn't show them actually reach the center of the galaxy (apparently they stop somewhere way closer), but I don't have the details on me if that's supported by the film or not.

Did anyone have pet birds on the D?

If so, would it mean there were raptors running around during the episode Genesis?

During the time of Genesis dozens, nay hundreds of crew members should have been eaten/killed by others. It's idiotic to assume that creatures like whatever worf was would just wander the corridors of the ship without killing anyone.
