List of Trek questions that keep us up at night

^^Could be. I know that Winrich Kolbe, who worked on Knight Rider, was involved in producing or directing several episodes of each spinoff, including TNG, so maybe he casted actors he was familiar with. Off the top of my head, Patricia McPherson, Walter Gotell (whose probably known more for his role in the James Bond films), Lance LeGault (from The A-Team), Marc Alaimo, Peter Mark Richman and Henry Darrow all appeared in TNG.

Kolbe directed episodes from each Berman era spinoff... a total of 50 episodes. Only person to direct more episodes was David Livingston, with 62.

As far as I know, the only series where he had a direct hand in producing/casting/other than directing duties was the VOYAGER pilot, "CARETAKER". And perhaps the TNG finale, as well.

He did, however, have a great influence on the look and feel of VOYAGER, partly because he directed 6 episodes from that first season, more than 1/4 of it.

-What would the Borg do after they had assimilated every species and therefore maximum of technology level? (ok maybe that's the same kind of question like "What would Darth Sidious do after conquering the whole galaxy? / What would Sauron do after conquering entire Middle Earth?" etc.)

-Why do Starfleet captains sometimes only send teams of two or three members into situations that could become extremely dangerous?

-And why are those teams in potentially or even surely dangerous situations often only armed with hand Phasers?

But the most important one that is actually bothering me since quite some time:

-When you use a sonic shower, how exactly do you become clean and get rid of bad smell? I'm sure people in the 24. century have ways to avoid reeking if we have already, but I just can't imagine how those showers work properly :D

There's really only 2 explanations for how a sonic shower could work in the Star Trek context imho. The ultrasonic pulsation cleanses their pores apparently. Since we're given to accept that their sonic showers utilize no water stores, & what we've seen on screen definitely shows moisture on the skin of those showering. Then where does that moisture come from?

Either it is coming from the user's own body, which seems unlikely, because it would wick away an unhealthy amount of fluid from them, & probably wouldn't do much for deodorizing them. So, I couldn't see how anyone would find that relaxing

OR the more likely theory is that much like Picard tries to introduce to Kataan in "The Inner Light", Starfleet has atmospheric condenser technology, It's reasonable to assume the air the crew breathes is much like the air in our own atmosphere, which contains water vapor, & can be reclaimed with the condenser tech, perhaps in that very shower chamber, & made usable as a means for cleansing ultrasonically. So while it isn't strictly a waterless shower, it IS a system that takes no water to operate it, only the environmental atmosphere

The only question is why this would be preferable to regular wet bathing, as replication means there's no water shortage on board. You can fill in your own blanks for that. Maybe it's like a scented, cleansing agent infused, steam bath that's cavitation is like a massage etc... who knows?

There was a bonkers comic book years ago where the Borg succeeded in assimilating the galaxy and so began to assimilate all of time as well, so they won't just rule all, they'll always have ruled all.

Of course, when they got back as far as the Next Gen era Picard and company stopped them.

With that idea it's silly if the Borg say conquer the twenty third century and then defeat the combined armies of the earth in the twenty first century followed by the twentieth when it would be so much easier just to assimilate the inhabitants of the planet in the fourth or fifth centuries or even earlier during the reign of the Romans! What a waste of good Drones if you didn't do that in the first place! :borg:

Why didn't the tricorders have a built in light? Seems like that might be useful in an emergency when everything is dark.

Further, why were all the flashlights locked away with the weapons? Is everyone in the 24th century epileptic? Every time the power goes out, everyone is just stumbling around in the dark, largely because no one can get to the weapons locker to get a flashlight.

I've also noticed that starfleeet doesn't seem to know what a fire extinguisher is. Stuff burning all around and no one has the sense or ability to grab a fire extinguisher and put those suckers out.

24th Starfleet ships... no surge protectors? All those sparks flying everywhere...

And seatbelts... did they just go out of style after the 21st century? Probably prevent a lot of injuries if there were seatbelts in every chair.

IIRC, the sonic shower was explained back when TMP came out. It does involve water, but only a light spray at the beginning. Then the sonic vibrations lift the dirt off you using the thin film of water as a medium, and it falls away as the water evaporates.
