In the series finale, Sam Tyler receives a phone call that presents him with three tasks he must perform so he can return to his life in the future, he must weigh his alternatives and decide whether to stay in 1973 or go home.

That was excellent......I sure didn't see that ending coming!

Okay, now please, can we dispense with this April Fools crap? :brickwall:

No April Fools' joke intended......I have no idea why you would say that!

Well, for one thing, it *is* April 1. ;)

I apologize if I sounded harsh, but come on. The episode is only just airing right now. How could you possibly have seen it already?

I did sorta enjoy seeing Vic get his. What a bastard.

What I did NOT expect to see is that scene with Sam, in 2010, reading to an elderly Annie. That must have been a what-if flash-forward thing. Sort of an "if he gets home" scene.

There's only 10 minutes left (I have my DVR on pause). And still we know nothing about this Aries stuff, or who that guy on the phone is - I thought it was Frank Morgan, but didn't they already arrest him?

HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I DON'T FUCKING BELIEVE THEY DID THAT! :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Note: Lisa Bonet was in the credits. But where was she in the *episode*? And we never did find out who that guy on the phone was, or what exactly the hell was the 'third' thing Sam was supposed to do. Guess we'll just have to chalk that up to the glitch in the VR program.

I did love that bit about the real Windy being the computer voice, "going on a Gene hunt" and having 'Major Tom' (nice Bowie reference) being the real Sam's father. :guffaw: :guffaw:

Eh, kind of a blah ending. Seems to rip any sort of real emotional investment away, which is a shame, because I really liked seeing Sam come to appreciate his life in 1973.

I strongly suspect this ending was very hastily written "on the fly" after the producers found out about the cancellation. It seemed very rushed.

Although if they were looking to be different from the UK version, they sure as shit managed that! So the title of the series is literal anyway! :guffaw:

I still love that bit about "Major Tom". Although Harvey Keitel looked a bit old to be playing somebody who was only a Major (especially since the real Annie is a Colonel). I would have thought Ray or Chris would have been better suited for that...although since Gene, or Tom, is actually Sam's father, I guess they had to sort of work that in.

And I still don't know why the hell Lisa Bonet was in the credits. She wasn't even IN this episode! Not even in flashbacks or flashforwards! Did her part get cut out?

Oh well. I saw the YouTube preview of the L.A. version. I am so glad they didn't go with that. Even though excellent actors like Colm Meaney and Lenny Clarke were in it. Jason O'Mara looked very unhealthy! What the hell was wrong with him there?

I don't even know why it credited Lisa Bonet at all. It should have been guest starring for that brief time she was there.

I loved the series and somehow with it ending in one season made it better - I get a little impatient when crisis last too long. The average human being learns how to cope with crisis like he decided near the end or give up like in the suicide ideation of last week's episode.

She should not have been in the credits this week at all, since SHE WAS NOT IN THIS EPISODE. Not at all. Unless all her scenes were edited out and they just forgot to change the credits.

Well this was certainly a surprise, I was expecting something more ambiguous, more along the lines of the original show's ending. I actually liked the way it ended and am glad the show got real closure unlike many other cancelled first season shows. BTW I think this thread should go into the SF/Fantasy forum.

The Obama reference was really lame, IMHO.

(Note that I have nothing against any of the members of that family. It's just that the way this episode mentioned them was about 100 kinds of hokey. Although if either of the Obama daughters saw this episode I bet they'll be good naturedly jabbering amongst themselves over which one of them was president in 2035.)

I think Lisa Bonet was given a credit simply to make us think that Sam was going to go "home" to his life in 2008, so that the real ending would be a total surprise.

We heard her once or twice. Not sure if it was new material though.

(also saw her in one of Sam's flashes)

Good point!

I must have totally blown by that tonight. I can't recall hearing her voice or seeing her in a flash back. I already erased my DVR to make me buy the series.
