I know the writers had a thankless job trying to make sense out of all this but to go and erase all the characters from the series was disappointing.

they weren't erased, they just became reactualized as metaphor's for the real-life problems that 2b was having with his father and his C.O.. Which really makes thepeople from '73 quite surreal more than unreal. Besides reviewing the series after this comes to light with clarity and hindsight will make us reinterpret everything... Y'know if half the scripts were not lifted from the limeys.

Well, turning the Gene-Sam relationship into daddy issues is like the hackiest solution ever.
You even had an inadvertent Luke-Leia moment since he may have slept with his sister, metaphorical or otherwise.

Interesting take on the material and all of the pieces fit into play. Clues were everywhere with Sam's childhood fascination with space as well as everyone calling him "Spaceman". It's too bad the series couldn't have lasted at least another year or two. Then, the series ending wouldn't have been so rushed.

I did think the "President Obama" angle was lame.

They were just computer programs that happened to look like other astronauts on the mission. Who they were and what they did in 1973 became meaningless.

I enjoyed the hell out of this show and am damn sad to see it end. I LIKED the ending a great deal. It actually brought a closure AND satisfaction to toe question of whether Sam would stay in 1973 or leave his friends and go back to 2008. He actually got the BEST of both by doing neither.

The entire series was all a dream pretty much. I hate Trek episodes with reset buttons so this was much worse.:rommie:

Actually we also know that, if the ending didn't exist, Sam would have chosen to stay in 1973, since he hangs up on the telephone guy and doesn't even want to know what the 'third task' (that he'd have to do to get home) was.

If you are having a temporal crisis you will get frustrated going back and forth, all circular with no way out. You have to pick your time and get on with your life. So he had his girl there in 1973 and he was not feeling in closer to getting back to 2008. He made a choice stay there and try to be happy or as in the UK series - end it all. I can relate with wanting drama out of your life and picking to deal with what you have - choosing to not to fight the futile fight any longer.

I can't remember, did Sam know that Maya (his GF in 2008 - Lisa Bonet's character) eventually dumped him because he was in a coma too long? (He could often see himself in 2008, as his coma-scenes manifested themselves as a cheesy 1973 soap opera, which was one of my favorite bits about the show :guffaw: ) If he did, maybe that's one of the reasons he would have chosen to stay in 1973, since he would have had no one to return to.

I gave up on this show after the first episode. I was convinced that each character in 1973 represented part of the main character's personality as he was deciding to live or die in his coma. His boss was Death, another was desire to live, another was love for his wife, etc.

Sounds like it wasn't even in the same galaxy.

I just had a thought. Maybe the ending isn't like we think. It's up on YouTube now. Two things struck me:

- There are bits of 1973 wallpaper in the control room of the Mars lander

- Notice the boot that steps onto the Martian surface? Recognize who it belongs to? It's 1973 Gene's!

Also, as Sam is gradually waking up inside the Martian lander, we hear what sounds like doctor's voices ("We're losing him!"). Maybe he's still dreaming and they're trying to wake him up.

If this is true, then my theory is that 2008 actually *is* Sam's reality after all, and the 2010 scene with him and old Annie means that he eventually does get home.
