Levar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy?

They should have a prime-time Jeopardy special with Levar hosting a Star Trek Jeopardy Trivia competition with all the questions dealing with Star Trek.

I can't remember the last time I watched The Price Is Right, though it was probably during the Barker years. Was there a certain point when you thought the show and Drew improved? Because Richards was there from 2008-2018.

Granted I only watch when I'm sick or on vacation and I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes, but I do remember reading that the producers wanted the models to be called 'Drew's Cuties' as a play on 'Barker's Beauties' and Drew said 'No'. Drew was also behind the push to have a male model added to the program.
There are a couple of other stories regarding Drew butting heads with the producers, but I don't remember the specifics.

Good on Drew. Sounds like he's tried to make that show a better place.

Sony saying there were "Unaware" ( BS..) that might give them an out if they don't feel like Mikey is worth the bad publicity. Part ways due to "Creative Differences" or du to an abundance of caution, and wanting to start the new series right without problems.. yadda yadda..

Honestly, I don't think they're going to even do that. Sony has fucked up this whole process every step of the way. Why stop now?

If they haven't started taping Season 38 yet, then they're literally days away from doing so. Sony doesn't care, and probably won't start to care unless they start getting lots of letters or threats of action from women's interest groups, or see ratings start to go down the shitter (which I suspect they will anyway).

The Ringer article says the show starts taping on Thursday (since the article came out yesterday, that might actually mean today). So, yeah, they don't care. Full steam ahead for them.

Yeah, the fact that they're saying they've been unaware is a stretch. I mean, it's Jeopardy, their most popular game show, how could they not do their due-diligence? He'll likely become a Jeopardy question himself in the future. The only reason why they're saying this is to save face after a costly PR stunt of a search.

IMO once Alex made his announcement that he had cancer the producers should have begun interviewing and auditions for permanent replacement host.

It could have been done through tournaments or prime-time specials.

Look I know this may sound callous, but the survival rate for prostate cancer is low; Alex, unfortunately, was going to die.

The fact that they had two years to look for a replacement when Alex passed on and were scrambling to find guest hosts make them look like they were caught off guard.

I also think Alex should have made it known, either privately or publicly, who he would want to replace him; and if he thought Mike Richards was good for the hosting gig, so be it.

Now, no one is happy with the selection.

The 5-year survival rate for prostate cancer is actually quite high in the US (99%). Pancreatic cancer, which Trebek died of, has a dismal 5-year survival rate of 6%.

my google fu isn't up to it but I'm pretty sure sony has a history of not know about something when damaging material comes out.

Well, the previous article mentioned Ken receiving a set of Alex's cufflinks, and had talked to him a few weeks earlier about guest-hosting, and it seems to me like he was Alex's main choice. I don't think Alex would be terribly happy with this outcome.

Though I agree they should have been searching, even if behind the scenes even while Alex was still alive. They should have been forming a contingency plan for the future.

Trebek said that he wanted a woman of color to replace him, and specifically mentioned Laura Coates.

I've seen her name come up as Alex's suggestion on Twitter on several occasions, but no one seems to know if she was even interested in hosting.

To be honest, I hadn't even heard of her until her name was brought up in this context (but that means squat).

Aaaand Mike's out... as host. Sony is still keeping him on as the show's executive producer. A new bunch of guest hosts will be rounded up to start the season; I wonder if LeVar will get another chance to improve on his performance from last month?

The article also mentions that Richards did tape episodes yesterday (his first day as host was also his last), but no word on how many or whether they'll be allowed to air. God knows how you handle something like that... of course, if Sony had done their due fucking diligence, we wouldn't be pondering this question right now.

You beat me to it! I had to go and post on Facebook first.

I have to say, after even the scathing report from The Ringer, I am actually surprised he is stepping down (or more likely, forced out by Sony). I honestly didn't think, at this point, that all of the shit that has come out about him would make a lick of difference considering how badly Sony fucked up this process every step of the way.

You quoted while I was editing; the article mentions that Richards taped yesterday (his first day as permanent host was also his last). I'm curious as to how those episodes will be handled — will they be allowed to air? Strategic reshoots with a different guest host (which could be a difficulty task if the losing contestants have skipped town already)?
