Levar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy?

You'll have to refresh my memory as to how the treatment of human beings is a political issue..
Well, on this point alone, the base essence of all politics is almost exclusively about how humans will be treated. That's what governance is, deciding/agreeing on how people are treated.

I would have preferred if they'd taken more time to find some suitable hosts. This just feels like they jumped the gun despite the search, and I feel the show will suffer for it. They really could have done so much better.

They were doomed from the start. Jeopardy was Alex. Lots of people probably tuned in just for him.

Yep, and that's just it. They're hard shoes to fill, but at the same time, I don't think they did their best in choosing a suitable host. Under this configuration, I don't see it lasting. What they really should have done is take a break, for a year or two, while they figure it out and give the show time for a breather. Then the show could come back feeling reinvigorated.

I don’t think there’s any conspiracy but definitely think they made the decision a long time ago and didn’t tell anyone because of ratings.

Which kind of gives one the impression that it was never about the ratings about the hosts in the first place, but more about having their pawn in place before the race even started, and having a few wildcards in there for entertainment.

Nobody was more supportive than I about LeVar Burton getting a guest-hosting gig.

But he did not do well. He had me cringing in vicarious embarrassment. He essentially ran hot and cold: on the one hand, his over-the-top enthusiasm at times made him look like a caricature of himself, while on the other hand, he was frequently wayyyy toooo slowwwww in reacting to contestant responses (I hope his reaction times behind the wheel are better than they are behind the host's desk).

Why can't his fans face the fact that he simply isn't cut out to be the host of Jeopardy?

I'm not thrilled with Mike Richards; I would have been very happy with Ken Jennings, Buzzy Cohen, David Faber, Bill Whittaker, or Mayim "I'm a Ph.D., and I play one on TV" Bialik. I see the decision to hire Dr. Bialik (who actually did very well) for specials as the producers hedging their bet on Richards.

I'm thrilled with Mike Richards but he's generic enough to be OK as a host; we don't really know too much about him yet. I'm really not OK with Bialik for reasons previously stated. I'll probably not watch any of her episodes.

There's no fucking way Mike "WHO?!" Richards has as many supporters as LeVar Burton.
I don't know. Mayim was very popular and Mike was very popular. Regardless of allegations Mike has the job and Mayim is a backup and I bet she gets it full time eventually. I thought Mayim did a great job. She has a ton of fans. Both of them together are getting lots of congrats out there right now.
I like Burton as well. But his shaky start really hurt him.

Probably because 90% of them are Star Trek and Reading Rainbow fans. They are a stubborn lot. They are who got him there and no ones gonna change their minds no matter how good or bad he did.

I find it funny now Mayim is also getting attacked now previous comments. Why can't people get a job based on their performance without their personal beliefs getting involved and people using them as weapons against them???

People need to realize that its gonna happen no matter how much they kick and scream on Twitter.

The allegations against Richards wasn't particularly strong. He wasn't named in one of the suits and was dropped from the other suit before it was settled out of court.

I'm a Star Trek fan, too. And the last thing I want to see for anybody connected with Star Trek, whether he or she is a series lead, an extra, or a grip, is for that individual to make a fool out of himself or herself, by trying to do a job he or she is not cut out for.

At this point, I don't know whether Mr. Richards is a maligned good guy, or a whitewashed bad guy, with respect to the lawsuits. One rather telling comment I noticed was that working conditions for the models on The Price Is Right supposedly improved during his tenure, that they were treated as human beings, rather than just almost-anonymous eye candy, with host and models forbidden to interact with each other. No opinion on the veracity of that, but I think it was under his tenure with Wheel of Fortune that, when Sajak had his unexpected medical leave, Vanna White hosted (and did a better job hosting Wheel than LeVar Burton did hosting Jeopardy).

As to Dr. Bialik's controversial attitudes, some of them appear to come from her religious background, and appear to be considerably more moderate than what I'd see from an actual fanatic. I was rather slow on getting my COVID shots myself (hoping to minimize, or entirely avoid, having sharpened steel tubing inserted in my hide), and I've had exactly one flu shot in my life (and THAT was for the safety of my then-slowly-dying mother; the flu hardly affects me at all). And she's being hired as a game show host, not elected to a legislative seat.

Surely it should have been Will Farrell

I would have put Eugene Levy out in front before Will Farrell. There was a skit he did on SCTV that absolutely nailed the Trebek spirit, so much so for subsequent appearances of the character, he didn't even have to use the fake name.

I still wish they'd had a 'Who's Line' bonanza, with Drew Carey on Price is Right, Wayne Brady on Let's Make a Deal, then Aisha Tyler for Jeopardy, & when Sajak Retires, Ryan Stiles taking Wheel of Fortune lol

I'm indifferent. I would have loved to have seen him get the job, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. But it's made me ponder the fact that most of his work has been filmed via script with multiple takes rather than live-to-tape, and doing something of that nature must have felt daunting, especially in the face of that champion he was saddled with for his entire week.

EXACTLY!!
He doesn't have a whole lot of experience with unscripted or semi-scripted work, and unless Reading Rainbow (which I've literally never actually seen, not even clips or promo spots) was done multi-camera, he doesn't have a lot of experience with that, either. Has he done much stage work?

As to the current champion, he isn't nearly as engaging as, say, Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, Julia Collins, Buzzy Cohen, Austin Rogers, or even James Holzhauer. But after a while, he does tend to grow on you (maybe like mold?)

d unless Reading Rainbow (which I've literally never actually seen, not even clips or promo spots) was done multi-camera

From what I remember, it was basically him reading directly into a single camera, likely with the help of a teleprompter. It was actually a very primitive low-key show that didn't often diverge from that (other than when he did special visits to places like the TNG set).

I've had exactly zero problem with Matt at any point, but after tonight, he's officially my hero for showing Nicolle the door. Now THAT was an annoying contestant.

One of the things I used to love about living near Philly was that WPVI, the local ABC affiliate, is (to the best of my knowledge) the only station in the U.S. that airs Jeopardy! before Wheel of Fortune. So after each show ended, I'd go online at 7:31 and say, "Did you see how they all blew that Final Jeopardy ques—" and my friends who lived in other markets would all be "SHUT UP, SPOILERS!!"
