Levar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy?

The Daily Beast is reporting that in addition to Mike Richards being announced as the permanent host of regular syndicated Jeopardy!, Sony is also going to announce Mayim Bialik as the host for prime-time specials and spin-offs including a Jeopardy! National College Championship that's supposed to air on ABC. (sauce)

I wonder if this means they'll be taking stuff like the Tournament of Champions that usually occupies a couple of weeks during the season and turning it into a prime-time special, so that syndicated jeopardy! just becomes the regular game year-round?

Probably for the best considering if there are any problems, either one could technically take over. But it's weird to me that while they say they always had plans for two hosts, that they were never upfront about it. It feels a little disingenuous. This is how rampant speculation is allowed to build.

I like both.

They're both awful. Richards, in addition to his sexual harassment allegations in his past, has all the "charisma" of an overly unctuous used car salesman desperately trying to make his monthly quota, and beyond her bizarre vaccination positions, Bialik supports the IDF's genocide against Palestinians and says that women should dress modestly if they don't want to become victims of sexual assault.

Just indefensible choices.

Just read the Richards problems, if hes indicated in them, then of course he should step down, but the investigation is ongoing, so I'll wait for the actual facts.
With Bialik, she's Jewish, so her supporting Israel is like saying the sky is blue. Her words on rape were what she done to discourage any harassment against her, and she has since apologized and done at least an event to talk about it. And her Vaccine position is only her own possition, she wasn't asking anyone else to take it. It appears she has since been or will be vaccinated with her kids when eligible, so not a problem even if I cared her stance on Vax.

So at the moment, happy they found a permanent host, not my choice, would probably be Levar, but hey, my opinion doesn't mean much.

AFAIK, there is no investigation into Richards; these are lawsuits brought against him when he was EP on The Price Is Right (2008-2018). None of the suits are ongoing, but they paint a picture of Richards as a creep and a harasser.

I think this decision was made long before and the guest hosts were never in serious consideration nor anyone else.

The optics certainly suggest that the fix was in from the start. I'm not saying it was, just saying that it appears that way (especially given Richards' half-hearted memo to staffers saying, "Oh, I'm just the executive producer of the show, I have no input as to who it will be").

So you base the choice of TV game show hosts on politics and your opinion of Mr. Richards. Interesting. Perhaps the producers should have consulted you. Both of them, IMHO, came across quite well in their respective hosting stints. The fact that you don't like them probably doesn't disqualify them.
As far as the conspiracy theory of predetermined hosing choices, I call bullshit. Serious contenders were given two or more weeks' auditions and Buzzy Cohen was even given a tournament to host. I think it was a very legitimate process. I think folks are just mad that Saint Levar was never seriously considered.
And, as much as he makes me want to puke, I think Joe Buck has been in the very top echelon of guest hosts.

You'll have to refresh my memory as to how the treatment of human beings is a political issue.

Edit: And don't go projecting on me; I wasn't at all a fan of Burton's hosting. But Richards and especially Bialik were far worse, particularly Bialik's giggling after every answer.

I'd have honestly preferred them to make one choice, instead of just half assing it with one who probably should've been chosen & the one who was taking it regardless.. I'd be more in favor of Bialik just doing it all. Richards does nothing for me. Everything else aside, he's just a godawful screen presence to be seeing week in & week out imho.

It's arguably the 2nd most bothersome thing to have ever happened with someone named Michael Richards

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”....

They were doomed from the start. Jeopardy was Alex. Lots of people probably tuned in just for him. Richard's and Mayim have just as many supporters as Burton. The producers probably should have been up front about a second host. But i have a feeling that was tacked on to appease people crying foul at another White Male host.....
It is what it is....

That wasn't aimed at you. It was a reply to all the previous posters who propounded the conspiracy theory. Sorry for not making that clear.
