And yes, the joke was clearly about Bristol. She was the one all over the news last year for getting knocked up, and the one everyone already knows about (hell, I'm sure most people forgot Sarah Palin even HAD another daughter).

She has also made herself a public figure as an adult by being an 18 year old mother who is a "Teen Abstinence Ambassador" for the Candie's Foundation as well as speaking out on behalf of abstinence for The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

The girl has done interviews on TV, and appeared on the cover of a magazine in her High School graduation gown holding her son.

She is an advocate. And a public figure. And it's clear that was who Letterman was referring to.

But what do I know? I thought the joke was more about A-Rod than Palin anyways.

I guess I didn't think before the aftermath of the joke that it was common knowledge that Sarah and Willow Palin went to a baseball game. I would think when most people heard him say "Sarah Palin's daughter" they just thought of Bristol or even more likely "the one that got knocked up".

If anything, I think he's guilty of making a really easy joke, one that was probably so lazy they didn't even put two and two together when they made it and led to the stupid mistake. The alternative just isn't really Letterman's style.

Insulting those who don't share your opinion by resorting to name-calling only adds more fuel to the fire, sir. NOBODY is disputing which Palin daughter was actually attending the game. Letterman's joke was CLEARLY directed at Bristol, not Willow as the Palins would have you believe. Why would Letterman make a joke about a political figure's daughter who virtually no one outside of Wasilla, Alaska had heard of until after this incident? It's more likely that he didn't bother making a head count of who was at the game.

You talk of decency... of tolerance and understanding... and yet you would choose to overlook commentary from conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and pretty much the entire staff at Fox News, with only a few minor exceptions like Shepard Smith who is a good man in my book. There has been far more hateful dialogue coming from their side than there has from the "liberal media," which is part of the reason why the reaction to this latest incident has not been one of snap judgment on the parts of CBS network executives. At the same time, you've effectively used the equally cliched term "socialist"... that dirty word our society has been using for years now to label anyone who dares to have a difference of opinion as being either brainless or just plain evil despite the fact that that word, along with "communism," doesn't necessarily mean what it's been twisted into meaning and is not actually synonymous with "evil"... to brand the other side as if they were the scum of the earth. This is exactly the kind of mentality that was chosen not to lead our country by a majority of the U.S. population this past fall.

OF COURSE the media is biased. Fox News leans to the right, MSNBC to the left, while CNN is caught somewhere in the middle, usually leaning more left than right. Who gives a fig? It only matters if you let the opinions of whatever news organization you watch do your thinking for you.

I don't know why Stewart would want any of the late-night slots. The Daily Show is pure quality, and his production company is also responsible for The Colbert Report. Why screw up a good thing...? I would give him five minutes as a late-night host before the critics ripped him to shreds. It's a much different format, and his political influence would drop like an anvil.

Stewart is obviously such a huge political junkie that I'm sure he'd get bored out of his mind talking to nothing but celebrities every day. No matter how much they paid him.
