Let's talk about the elephant in the room, this series violates Roddenberry's vision big time

I care as a Trekkie who'd like others to become fans too to see the fandom something they'd like to join.

A truly better question is why do you care to be petty?
I've been doing nothing BUT discuss the actual episode and not other posters use of terms. I think you might want to look in the mirror and ask the question you did about yourself in this instance.

No one makes you do anything you don't want to.

You typed std into a wiki and got what you wanted to find. Type it into Google.com.

first hit ist the wiki page i talked about (but in german - i punched it into the english wiki)

wouldn't you think someone not capable of seing the difference between two STDs wasn't able to understand trek at all?

That's not how mockery works.

Or first impressions. You're asking people to brush aside self-infection.

If I'm some kid trying to decide whether to download SW or STD for the first time, what should I choose? If my dunderhead big brother's mocking a nerd classmate who can't get pussy, and I'm questioning whether I should even consider Trek over Wars at all, then see the fanbase hurling STI's at each other...yeah, maybe that's not a thing I need to gravitate toward.

At the end of the day, you make it Star Trek = STD.

So confronted with your error you choose to make it a mistake.
STD has been the acronym of awkward linguists and malcontent haters. I know I was using DIS/DSC a year ago, as were many others. I think CBS uses DSC and I’m told Memory Alpha uses DIS.
There’s lots of reasoning for why it shouldn’t be the mean-spirited abbreviation and only the mean-spiritednessr to call it that.
Choose your path, trekker, carefully in this life...
In which case, what your promoting is the ugliness of its detractors and the smallness of Trekkie geeks altogether, before the rest of the world.
You signal to all that whatever it is you want maybe isn’t worth it, and both betray yourselves, and the Trek we all love, to the scrap heap before the New Hit that was so pettily maligned by its failed detractors.
False, no, but I’ll reiterate that it’s awkward. Why do you like STD?
Again, do you use ST: V and ST: E? Do you use them every time?
And when acronyming for Star Trek fans?
ST: V, without context of whatever else you're writing, suggests TFF.
ST: D (not STD) is awkward without context, and eye-rolling with.
STD is just awkward. When it's not, for the show's detractors, petty.

oberth, don't be obtuse.
Noname Given, why do you use STD?
I'm aware it's the acronym you choose. Amusing why?

Good lord. What's next, are you going to waterboard him?

As much as I'm enjoying reading four pages of the Adventures of Arpy: Acronym Cop, no one appointed you the sheriff of TBBS, TrekBBS, TBS. TrekToday, TTay, Trekt, or whatever you want to call it, so stop being a rogue lawman that doesn't like to play by the rules and let everyone call Discy whatever the hell they want.

^ You could ask that we change the subject, having discussed this at length?

It's misleading to suggest that the issue is with random abbreviations. Or that it's "my" issue. The issue is with the choice of a specific problematic one. That said, I'm good if you are.

Um, the only one here who seems to have an issue with that particular acronym is yourself though - so it's a fair statement to say it's your issue.

You have the right to use whatever acronym you want.

How people perceive you because of that acronym is out of your hands.

FYI.

Pretty sure that's what I just did.

So, not misleading then.

Are you through yet? Because this is friggin' ponderous. And you don't need to get in the last word. The question was rhetorical.
