Hated it. Really hated it.
Jeffrey Hunter's Pike was one aggressive S.O.B., especially when backed into a corner. But then in the Prime Universe he already had one five year mission's worth of experience under his belt at this point...
Greenwood's Pike seemed to be on the desk jockey path. Not surprising with 20-somethings getting the Captaincy left, right and centre.

Greenwood's Pike seemed to be on the desk jockey path. Not surprising with 20-somethings getting the Captaincy left, right and centre.
Let's see:
- Pike was granted captaincy of the Federation flagship.
- He convinced a juvenile delinquent (whom he admired for getting into a bar brawl with four cadets I might add) to realize his potential by saying the right words and thus recruited one of Starfleet's greatest captains.
- Pike took the advice of a cadet stowaway on his bridge when lesser officers wouldn't have listened to a word he said out of rigidity or fear of losing face with his command crew, thus saving his ship.
- Pike potentially sacrificed his life by going alone over to the Narada, knowing full well what happened to Captain Robau when he did the same (he wrote his dissertation on the Kelvin incident).
- He used the above as a cover for launching a mission to disable the drill, a mission he conceived of in a matter of seconds and fully executed (successfully, albeit too late unfortunately) in minutes. This mission disabled the jamming and allowed the rescue of the Vulcan High Council.
- He refused to divulge information damaging to Starfleet in the face of torture (torture involving an alien scorpion entering through his mouth and latching on to his brain I might add) and death since he wasn't expecting rescue at that point.
- Despite being paralyzed by that torture, he still busted a cap in two Romulan's asses while being rescued.
Yes, clearly he was the non-aggressive desk-jockey type, and the fact that he used such a pussy catchphrase as "punch it!" just seals the deal.![]()
