Latest acquisition!

For after I finish my re-read of How Much For Just the Planet...

I have a blog page on all of the lyric snippets used in "How Much for Just the Planet". How I wish we'd had more time with Mike Ford. At a Sydney convention, we had him telling anecdotes of his HMfJtP journey.

This week's arrivals: "Star Trek: Voyager: Homecoming" Issue #2 from IDW, and my talking Hallmark "Star Trek: Strategic Operations" simulator arcade game console ornament.

Red Shirts #5 is fantastic, it's big twist is one of the best in all of Star Trek. I takes a lot for me to react out loud to a book, but this did get a "holy shit" out of me.

Latest "Star Trek" comics from IDW: "Strange New Worlds: The Seeds of Salvation" #4; and "Lower Decks" #14.

Pictured with a set of FlexFigs (Bendy) captains; some autographed trading cards; a tribble in Kirk's coffee cup, and the First Mate Piggy "Funko Pop!" figure.

Announcing a safe arrival: artist John Picacio's stunning sketch of Thelin the Andorian/Aenar (first appearance: Filmation’s “Star Trek Animated”) has come to live with me Down Under!

The colour version appeared on the cover of “Myriad Universes: Echoes and Refractions” (2008) to accompany the novella, “The Chimes at Midnight” by Geoff Trowbridge.

Thank you so much, John. I have always admired this piece!

I got an Amazon gift card from my aunt yesterday, so I got the e-books of TNG: Vendetta, TNG: The Battle of Betazed, and a couple of Doctor Who e-book.
I was flipping through The Battle of Betazed, and was shocked to see Elias Vaughn is in it, I had no idea he was in it.

I had this on order many months ago, much cheaper that most locations. When it failed to turn up from a local chain's online order, I finally enquired. It was announced as "Out of Stock" and I was abruptly refunded. No apologies. I searched elsewhere and ordered again. It turned up today!

"Murder on the Titan- A": Murder mystery game featuring Seven of Nine and Liam Shaw from "Star Trek: Picard" (Beadle & Grimm, 2025). Included is a rather handsome UFP badge from Pinfinity. An app enhances the interactivity of the game.

One of its credited creators is Matthew Lillard (Shaggy, of the "Scooby Doo" live action movies!)

I had enough points from puchases at Amazon that I was able to get the Kindle edition of TNG: Section 31: Rogue for free earlier today.
~ I recall rather liking Rogue, but my favourite of the Section 31 series was the TOS novel, Cloak, by S. D. Perry. I hope you enjoy it (if you haven't already read it)!

My latest Star Trek acquisitions turned up today: ST III: The Search For Spock: The Making of the Classic Film, by John Tenuto and Maria Jose Tenuto, and the first two omnibuses of the Lower Decks comics:

(I included my little Eaglemoss Grissom in the photo as I love the Oberth-class and it was introduced in TSFS.)

I haven't read Rogue yet, I have at least couple other things I want to read before I get to it.

My copy of Identity Theft was delivered today. Star Trek novels are basically the only books I still buy in physical form these days, and I much prefer to buy my physical books in-store, because generally I am concerned about the condition of the book. Unfortunately, last time I was at Indigo, this wasn't out yet, and it sold out before I was able to get back. (That sounds impressive, but keep in mind they only seem to order 1 or 2 copies of Star Trek books anymore. :( ) So I had to resort to buying online. Fortunately, it arrived in pretty good shape: no bent corners, tears, gouges, or other imperfections... other than the slightly vexing issue that the cover seems to have been cut smaller than the rest of the pages, by which I mean when you look at the front or the back, you can see an extra millimetre or two of the book pages extending on the right, past where the cover ends. Not enough of an issue to bother trying to exchange it, but I know it's going to slightly annoy me every time I look at it from now on.

The other book I bought today was non-Star Trek: The Paradox Paradox by Daniel Hardcastle. This one has a bit of a story to it. I first learned about it the last time I was in Indigo, primarily because it's such a large book, that it immediately draws the eye. I read the inner jacket blurb, and it intrigued me, and it seemed like something I would want to read. But I didn't want to pick up the physical version (other than Star Trek, I'm almost exclusively ebook-only, plus the $40 price tag was a little daunting), so I figured I'd buy the ebook when I got home.

Well, I got home and went to the Kobo site... and there was no ebook for it there. I did some research, and found out there were some corporate shenanigans going on. The original publisher apparently went into administration (both the publisher and the author are based in the UK), and then they formed a "new" company with the same executives, which then also went into liquidation. The result of all this, was that apparently the company refused to pay the author money he said he was owed. The ebooks were pulled globally, because the publisher was no longer operating, and any remaining physical copies still available in stores wouldn't actually generate any revenue for the author. So I couldn't get an ebook, and going back to buy a physical copy just seemed wrong and unfair to the author.

But the good news is that just before Christmas, the author was able to reclaim the rights to his book, and he is now selling the ebook directly on his Patreon for £5 or C$10. (I don't know the price in US$, but based on the exchange, I'm guessing around US$6 or US$7.) So I bought a copy and sideloaded it onto my Kobo, and now I'm good to go! :)

I think Identity Theft will be the first one I read, though. :)

"Identity Theft" novel (Gallery, 2025) by Greg Cox in trade paperback. @Greg Cox, did you notice that inside it incorrectly mentions the book being a hardcover? ;)

Also received the latest "Star Trek" comic from IDW: "The Last Starship" #3; and a few new autographed trading cards. (Had to get the Tellarite Ambassador as I already own his actual ambassadorial robes).
